Shadow Resistance Gear (Shadow Resistance)
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruShadow Resistance (SR) reduces damage from shadow spells. In WoW Vanilla it is needed above all in Naxxramas on the Four Horsemen, where Marks and hits deal shadow damage, and situationally against other shadow abilities.
Where shadow resistance matters
| Content | Who needs it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Four Horsemen | tanks, back group | shadow Marks and hits |
| Naxxramas | situational | select shadow spells |
Sources of SR
- Prayer of Shadow Protection (priest) — the main SR source for the whole raid, saves gear slots.
- Shadow Resistance Aura (paladin) — SR for the whole Alliance party.
- Scattered SR items — Vanilla has almost no dedicated SR set, so mixed pieces are used.
- Enchants on gear and cloak — shadow resistance.
- Potions: the Magic Resistance Potion temporarily raises resistance to all schools.
Recommended cap
General rule: ~5 points ≈ 1% average reduction, practical cap against bosses is 315. On the Four Horsemen the raid usually reaches the needed SR mostly through the priest prayer and paladin aura plus a couple of items — you don't need everyone at full cap via gear. See the resistance mechanics page.
Tips for x5
- Assign priests ahead of time to keep Prayer of Shadow Protection on every group.
- Give the back-tanks a few SR items in addition to the prayer.
- Full overview of all schools in the resistance gear guide.
