Gressil, Dawn of Ruin — Caster Mace from Naxxramas
Gressil, Dawn of Ruin is a one-handed caster mace in WoW Vanilla, dropping from Kel'Thuzad in Naxxramas. For warlocks and shadow priests it is one of the best spell power rewards in Classic.
Stats
Gressil is a one-handed mace with a large spell power bonus plus intellect and stamina. It is especially valuable for shadow damage classes, where every point of spell power speeds up boss kills.
Stats:
- Type: one-handed mace (for casters)
- Bonuses: spell power, intellect, stamina
- Role: spell damage (shadow focus)
◆How to obtain
Gressil, Dawn of Ruin drops only from Kel'Thuzad, so the path to it is a full weekly clear of Naxxramas.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Source | Kel'Thuzad (Naxxramas) |
| Type | One-handed caster mace |
| Class | Warlock, Shadow priest, Elemental shaman |
| Tier | Naxxramas (Vanilla endgame) |
On an x5 server Naxxramas farms faster — you can realistically close Gressil in a few weeks. Agree on priority among warlocks and shadow priests in advance.
◆Who needs it
The mace is especially valuable for Destruction warlocks and shadow priests: high spell power directly boosts Shadow Bolt, Corruption and other key spells. Elemental shamans can use it as an upgrade too.
Farming tactics on x5
How to speed up getting the item:
- Ensure a clean run through every wing of Naxxramas to Kel'Thuzad — without it the drop will not appear.
- Agree on distribution among damage casters: warlocks, shadow priests and elemental shamans all want the mace.
- Until Gressil drops, use AQ40 caster weapons as a stopgap.
Summary
Gressil, Dawn of Ruin is the peak one-handed damage-caster weapon in Vanilla: high spell power makes it a goal for several classes. It is worth keeping Naxxramas in the raid rotation for it.
