Blacksmithing in WoW Classic
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruBlacksmithing is a crafting profession in WoW Classic for forging armor, weapons and useful items. On the WoW Classic X5 realm (1.12.1, x5 rates) it is the choice of Warriors, Paladins and Hunters who want Pre-BiS items without relying on the auction house.
Why level Blacksmithing
A Blacksmith can forge Pre-BiS gear that would otherwise take long to farm: Lionheart Helm (the best DPS Warrior helmet until end-game)
Plate armor, Arcanite Reaper
Weapons, Dawn's Edge and many others. Crafting Rods for Enchanters (who pay the smith)
Enchanting and Sharp Edges are also profitable services.
How to level
You will need a lot of ore — stock up via Mining or buy in advance.
- 1–75 — Rough Stone Block, copper items (Copper Chain Belt).
- 75–150 — Iron items (Iron Shield Spike, Iron Buckle).
- 150–225 — Steel Breastplate, Golden Scale Bracers; ore from Arathi/STV.
- 225–300 — Thorium items; best method — Thorium Bracers and purchased recipes.
After skill 260 you unlock the specialization choice (Weaponsmith or Armorsmith).
Key recipes
- Lionheart Helm — best Pre-BiS helmet for DPS Warriors (requires Arcanite and essences).
- Sulfuron Hammer
Hammer — component for crafting the legendary Thunderfury. - Arcanite Reaper — Pre-BiS two-hander for DPS and Arms Warriors.
- Gloves of the Dawn / Bracers of Brutality — Pre-BiS for various slots.
FAQ
Which Blacksmithing specialization should you choose?
In Vanilla a Blacksmith picks either Weaponsmith or Armorsmith. Weaponsmiths forge powerful weapons (Sulfuron Hammer, Dawn's Edge) while Armorsmiths craft Pre-BiS armor (Lionheart Helm for Warriors, Might of the Timbermaw). The choice is permanent — decide early.
Is Blacksmithing profitable?
Less so than Alchemy or Herbalism: BOP craft recipes let you earn only a craft fee with the buyer's materials. However, Pre-BiS items for your own character save a great deal of gold.
