Scopes in WoW Classic 1.12.1 are engineering enhancements for bows, guns and crossbows that permanently add damage or accuracy to ranged attacks. On the WoW x5 server a scope is the first thing a hunter should get: there are simply no other permanent ranged weapon enhancements in 1.12.1.

What Scopes Do and Where They Go

A scope is a consumable: click it and target a bow, gun or crossbow. The effect is permanent and uses the ranged weapon enchant slot. Enchanting in 1.12.1 has no enchants for such weapons, so a scope has no competitors — a new scope simply replaces the old one. Five scopes add flat damage to every shot, while the Biznicks 247x128 Accurascope adds +3% chance to hit with ranged attacks. Since patch 1.10 the Biznicks bonus applies to ranged attacks only.

Vendor schematics for the Accurate and Deadly scopes are limited: one is in stock at a time and a new one appears after a few hours. The Deadly Scope is sold by the gnome Knaz Blunderflame at his hilltop camp in Stranglethorn Vale and by Yuka Screwspigot at Flame Crest in the Burning Steppes. The Sniper Scope schematic drops with a small chance from many level 40–50 creatures and from chests.

Biznicks 247x128 Accurascope and Molten Core

The best scope schematic of 1.12.1 is part of the shared crafting recipe table of Molten Core: it can drop from Lucifron, Magmadar, Gehennas, Garr, Shazzrah, Baron Geddon and Golemagg the Incinerator. The schematic binds when picked up, so the raid should agree in advance which engineer gets it. The reagents are raid-level too: Lava Core comes from the same raid, and Dark Iron Bars can only be smelted in Blackrock Depths.

How to Make a Scope

Learn the recipe from an engineering trainer or read the schematic — leveling details are in the engineering guide.
Keep an Arclight Spanner in your bags — every scope needs it. The Accurate Scope also needs a Gyromatic Micro-Adjustor.
The Deadly, Sniper and Biznicks scopes need a Blacksmith Hammer and an anvil nearby.
Gather the reagents from the table and craft the scope in the profession window.
Apply the scope to the weapon — any character of the required level can do it.

Uses and Tips

Leveling. A scope gives a hunter a noticeable boost at low levels: +3 from the Accurate Scope at level 20 is felt. Don't forget about ammunition either.
Raids. Until a hunter reaches the hit cap, Biznicks is better than any flat damage — see the hit cap guide and hunter pre-raid BiS.
PvP. The Sniper Scope is a cheap and reliable option for weapons you swap often.
Warriors and rogues use a scope for Shoot damage, but weightstones and sharpening stones for the main weapon come first.
