Cooking Recipes in 1.12.1: Trainers, Vendors, Drops and Quests
WoW Classic cooking recipes are about much more than what your trainer offers: most useful dishes are sold by vendors in remote settlements, and the best recipes for 275–300 skill come from quests or dungeon drops. On the WoW x5 server running patch 1.12.1 we put together a reference: where recipes come from, which 225–300 dishes are worth learning and where to find each one.

Where cooking recipes come from
All 1.12.1 recipes fall into three groups. Leveling the skill from 1 to 300 is covered in the cooking guide; this page focuses on recipe sources.
From the trainer
Cooking trainers can be found in every capital. They teach basic dishes and raise your profession rank. To go beyond 225 you need the Artisan rank, granted by the quest Clamlette Surprise from Dirge Quikcleave in the Gadgetzan inn, Tanaris. The quest becomes available at 225 skill.
From vendors
Most 225–275 recipes are sold by vendors, each with a set of their own:
- Gikkix (Steamwheedle Port, Tanaris) — fish recipes: Grilled Squid, Nightfin Soup, Poached Sunscale Salmon;
- Kelsey Yance (Booty Bay) — Cooked Glossy Mightfish, Hot Smoked Bass;
- Vivianna (Feathermoon Stronghold) and Sheendra Tallgrass (Camp Mojache), Feralas — Mightfish Steak, Baked Salmon, Lobster Stew;
- Malygen (Talonbranch Glade), Bale (Bloodvenom Post) in Felwood and Himmik (Everlook, Winterspring) — Monster Omelet;
- Truk Wildbeard (Aerie Peak) plus Dirge Quikcleave and Innkeeper Fizzgrimble (Gadgetzan) — Tender Wolf Steak.

Drops and quests
The most valuable recipes cannot be bought. Savory Deviate Delight is a rare drop from creatures of the Barrens, Runn Tum Tuber Surprise drops from Pusillin in Dire Maul. Smoked Desert Dumplings is the reward for the Desert Recipe and Sharing the Knowledge chain that starts with Calandrath in Cenarion Hold, Silithus. Dirge's Kickin' Chimaerok Chops is a reward from a Dirge Quikcleave quest.
How to get the recipe you need: step by step
- Check your skill. You can only learn a recipe if your skill is at least the value shown on the scroll.
- Unlock Artisan with Clamlette Surprise once you reach 225.
- Find the source in the table below: vendor, drop or quest.
- Gather reagents. Fish come from fishing, meat from animals, spices from vendors.
- Cook at a fire — a campfire, an inn or a city kitchen hearth.

Well Fed food for raids
The dishes in the table grant the Well Fed bonus: you need to stay seated and eat for at least 10 seconds. Tanks and anyone who wants to survive an extra hit should use Monster Omelet or Dirge's Chops, warriors use the Dumplings, hunters and rogues the Squid, casters the Soup or the Runn Tum dessert. A role-by-role table is in Well Fed food buffs, other consumables are in the raid consumables overview.
◆Novelty dishes
Cooking can entertain too. Savory Deviate Delight turns you into a pirate or a ninja for an hour, and Dragonbreath Chili gives a 10 minute chance to belch flame at enemies you strike in melee. Other amusements of the era are collected in the fun items section.
◆Fish dishes
Fishing and cooking go hand in hand: almost half of the 225–300 recipes need a fresh catch. Separate pages exist for Grilled Squid, Nightfin Soup, Sagefish Delight and Tender Wolf Steak. The fishing guide tells you where to catch each fish.
Tips
- Buy recipe scrolls as soon as you pass a vendor: getting back to Steamwheedle Port or Feralas later often takes longer than you expect.
- Recipes from drops do not bind — look for them on the Auction House.
- Do not confuse cooking with first aid: bandages are covered in WoW Classic bandages, and antidotes in the anti-venom overview.
