Dragonbreath Chili in WoW Classic: Fire Breath Food Guide
Dragonbreath Chili is one of the most spectacular dishes in Vanilla 1.12.1 cooking: after eating it, your character occasionally breathes fire at enemies struck in melee. On the WoW x5 server players cook it for fun and for lively world fights, and the recipe is sold in Dustwallow Marsh and Desolace.

◆What it is and what it does
The chili is a common (white) item. Unlike regular food it restores no health and does not require you to sit: eat it and the effect lasts for 10 minutes. With a 5% chance on a melee hit your character belches fire at enemies in front of them, with at least 10 seconds between procs. According to our server database, the breath deals 61–69 fire damage to every enemy in a cone in front of the character.
Keep in mind this is not a Well Fed effect: the tooltip has no Stamina, Strength or Spirit bonus. The full list of Well Fed dishes is on the Well Fed food buffs page. The item can be used once per minute and stacks to 20.
How to get the recipe and cook it
- Raise Cooking to 200 — the skill required to learn the recipe. The cooking leveling guide explains how to get there.
- Buy Recipe: Dragonbreath Chili for 70 silver (base price). It is sold by Ogg'marr, the butcher of Brackenwall Village (Horde), and by Helenia Olden, the trade supplies vendor on Theramore Isle (Alliance). Both are in Dustwallow Marsh.
- The neutral option is Super-Seller 680, who travels with the goblin kodo caravan across Desolace. He carries a single copy of the recipe, and his stock refreshes roughly every 15 minutes.
- Gather the reagents: Mystery Meat, Small Flame Sac and Hot Spices.
- Cook at any campfire or fire: each serving takes 3 seconds to make.

Reagents and skill-up
| Reagent | Qty | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Mystery Meat | 1 | Drops from beasts of roughly level 30–58 |
| Small Flame Sac | 1 | Whelps and dragonkin: Wetlands, Badlands, the Wyrmbog, Feralas |
| Hot Spices | 1 | Trade supplies and cooking supply vendors |
Small Flame Sacs most often drop from the red whelps of the Wetlands (levels 23–27), Scalding Whelps in the Badlands, Searing Whelps of the Wyrmbog and Sprite Darters in Feralas. Mystery Meat drops from almost every mid-level beast, so it is easy to collect while questing.
| Stage | Skill |
|---|---|
| Orange (guaranteed skill-up) | 200 |
| Yellow | 225 |
| Green | 237 |
| Gray | 250 |
The recipe is a good choice for leveling from 200 to 225 if you already have meat and flame sacs piling up. Other recipes for this range are listed in the cooking recipes hub.
◆Who benefits from it
The effect only procs from melee hits, so the chili suits melee fighters: warriors, rogues, paladins, shamans and druids in animal form. The breath hits several targets in a cone, so it shines most against groups of enemies. Its damage is modest, which is why serious raids pick classic Well Fed food instead — see the raid consumables guide for the full picture. For fun, videos and world skirmishes, though, the chili remains one of the flashiest options, together with other fun items.
Tips
- Buy Hot Spices in bulk from a vendor: they cost next to nothing, and the recipe will not work without them.
- Horde players will find Brackenwall Village most convenient, Alliance players Theramore; if the Desolace caravan happens to be nearby, check Super-Seller 680, but his copy may already be sold out.
- The chili does not replace Well Fed and is unrelated to it: decide what matters more for the fight at hand.
- For a Well Fed dish of the same tier, look at the Monster Omelet — it grants +12 Stamina and Spirit.
