Desolace is a bleak, rocky zone on the western coast of Kalimdor, designed for characters levels 30–40. Despite its desolate appearance, the zone hides the excellent Maraudon dungeon, a rich herbalism circuit, and some of the best mid-level quest chains in Vanilla WoW.

Location and How to Get There
Desolace is on western Kalimdor, between Stonetalon Mountains (north) and Thousand Needles (south).
- Horde: From the Barrens south through Thousand Needles, then north into Desolace.
- Alliance: From Darnassus via Darkshore ferry to Menethil, then overland, or directly through Stonetalon.
On WowX5 (x5 rates), mount speed at level 40 makes travel much faster. Pick up your mount before exploring Desolace.

Centaur Camps
The zone is split between warring centaur clans: Kolkar and Magram. They are hostile to each other, which creates interesting quest mechanics — you can side with one against the other.
Nijel's Point / Shadowprey Village
- Nijel's Point — Alliance outpost in the north with flight path and quest givers.
- Shadowprey Village — Horde outpost on the western shore.
Maraudon
inv_stone_15 A legendary dungeon hidden in Desolace's canyons, levels 33–46. Split into three sections: Purple Maraudon, Orange Maraudon, and the Earth Song Falls. Final boss: Princess Theradras.
