A city on the ley lines
Dalaran rose on lands rich in magical energy, not far from Alterac and Silverpine Forest. It was founded by mages exiled from other kingdoms for their devotion to the arcane. The ruling Kirin Tor council gathered beneath its domes the richest library of spells and artifacts, and the Violet Citadel became a symbol of magical might. It was here that sorcerers such as Jaina Proudmoore and Khadgar began their paths.
Wardens of Tirisfal
The Kirin Tor bore a secret burden — guardianship of Azeroth's magical line of defense. Through them passed the power of the Guardian of Tirisfal, meant to hold back the Burning Legion. The last of the great Guardians was Medivh, whose fall and opening of the Dark Portal set off the wars of orcs and humans.
Death at the hands of the Legion
The Third War brought a terrible fate to Dalaran. The Scourge stole the Book of Medivh from the city's vaults to summon the demon Archimonde. Entering the world, Archimonde fell upon Dalaran and erased its majestic towers with a single sweep — thousands of mages died in an instant.
Dalaran in WoW Classic
In the Vanilla era Dalaran is a mournful ruin sealed beneath an enormous purple dome in the south of the Alterac Mountains, on the border of Silverpine Forest. The surviving Kirin Tor hold the barrier against the demons trapped within. The city is off-limits to players — a monument to the price of magical pride.
