Draenor: the orcish homeland
Draenor is the world the orcs came from. Red savannahs, the blue forests of Terokkar and the endless steppes of Nagrand were home to dozens of orc clans and the peaceful draenei until Kil'jaeden corrupted the orcs with fel magic. In WoW Classic 1.12.1 Draenor is not accessible to players — it exists as the lore backdrop behind the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands and only opens in the next expansion.

◆The orc clans of Draenor
Before the invasion the orcs lived as nomadic clans, each with its own territory and customs. The largest were:
- Blackrock — the most warlike clan, led by Blackhand and later by Rend. Their descendants hold Blackrock Mountain in Azeroth.
- Frostwolf — the mountain clan of Durotan, who refused to drink Mannoroth's blood. Their descendants live in Alterac Valley.
- Warsong — the clan of Grommash Hellscream.
- Shadowmoon — the clan of the warlock-shaman Ner'zhul.
- Twilight's Hammer, Bleeding Hollow, Dragonmaw and others.

◆How Draenor died
- The pact with the Legion. Kil'jaeden appeared to Ner'zhul, then turned to Gul'dan and founded the Shadow Council.
- Mannoroth's blood. The orcs drank demon blood, gained strength and rage, and lost their bond with the elemental spirits. Only the Frostwolf clan refused.
- The draenei genocide. The Horde under Blackhand slaughtered nearly the whole draenei people; the survivors fled into Outland and later became the Broken.
- The Dark Portal. Gul'dan and Medivh opened the way into Azeroth, beginning the First War.
- The world torn apart. After losing the Second War Ner'zhul opened many portals at once in order to escape. The released energy tore Draenor to pieces, creating Outland adrift in the Twisting Nether.
◆Why it matters in Vanilla
- The surviving orcs of Azeroth descend from Draenor's clans; Thrall leads their path to redemption by restoring shamanism.
- The Blackrock orcs inside Blackrock Mountain, including Rend's Dark Horde, are direct heirs of that legacy.
- Lord Kazzak guards the Dark Portal in the Blasted Lands: the Legion still holds the crossing.
- The lore and rewards of the Hinterlands and Alterac Valley tie straight back to the Frostwolf clan.
In 1.12.1 you cannot walk through the Dark Portal — an invisible barrier stands under the arch. All that players get is the area around the portal in the Blasted Lands: the world boss Kazzak and the Legion's demon camps.
