Elemental Invasions: Elemental Incursions in Kalimdor (1.12.1)
Elemental Invasions are a recurring world event of WoW Classic 1.12.1, added in patch 1.4. Every few days portals to the Elemental Plane open in four Kalimdor zones and elementals stream out — stronger and more numerous than the local ones. At the height of an invasion an elite leader appears, hunted by level 60 groups for rare loot.
Do not confuse this with Elemental Unrest, the patch 4.0 pre-Cataclysm event: capital city attacks, Twilight's Hammer cultists and the Earthen Ring belong to a different era. Vanilla 1.12.1 only has the four zone invasions described below.

◆How an Invasion Works
- Glowing portals appear in the zone and invaders come through — two to three times as many elementals as usual, slightly higher level than the locals.
- At some point the invasion leader appears and shouts a challenge to the whole zone.
- While the leader lives, invaders keep arriving. Once he dies no new ones spawn, and the remaining ones can be cleaned up.
Blizzard's official description names no culprit: the elementals simply seem to test how far they can push before the Horde and the Alliance beat them back.

- Baron Charr circles the volcano with his guards, casting Fireball Volley and Flame Buffet, which increases fire damage taken.
- Avalanchion hurls boulders, stuns with Ground Tremor and tramples melee; Azshara's elite giants roam nearby, so avoid pulling extra.
- Princess Tempestria uses Cone of Cold, Frost Nova, Frostbolt and Geyser — keep her away from healers.
- The Windreaver casts Chain Lightning and Lightning Cloud and traps players in a cyclone that breaks on any damage.
Enveloping WindsThe WindreaverSurrounds an enemy with a cyclone for up to 10 sec. If the target takes any damage, it will break free.

Every leader shares a common pool and has named items:

All four drop the Ace of Elementals (the top card of the Elementals Darkmoon deck, see Darkmoon cards), Core of Elements, and essences and elementals of their element. 30 Cores of Elements are turned in to the Argent Dawn for reputation and an Insignia of the Dawn.
◆Elemental Invasions on WowX5 x5
On WowX5 x5 each of the four invasions starts every 3 days and lasts up to a day and a half, so you can realistically catch the leader if you check the zone from time to time. Bring a group of 5–10 level 60 players: leaders are elites with guards, and invaders keep coming while they live.
