The four kinds
Elementals are divided strictly by element. Fire elementals blaze with heat and answer to Ragnaros; water elementals are fluid and changeable, serving Neptulon; earth elementals are heavy and unbreakable under Therazane; air elementals are swift and elusive, obedient to Al'Akir.
Where to find them in Vanilla
Elementals are scattered across Azeroth, but each element favours its own lands.

Why farm them
Elementals drop valuable reagents — elemental motes and essences, fire cores and more. Alchemists need them for resistance potions, blacksmiths for fire-resistant armor, and enchanters for formulas. Farming elementals in Un'Goro and Silithus is a popular way to earn gold on an x5 server.
Bond with the elements
Every elemental is a shard of its Lord's realm. When you slay a fire elemental in the Molten Core, you are literally fighting the host of Ragnaros. Understanding the hierarchy of the elements lets you see the grand lore of the Elemental Lords behind a simple mob.

On WowX5 x5 farming elementals is livelier: boosted rates and a steady population make gathering essences and fire cores worthwhile. Collect reagents in Un'Goro, Silithus and Azshara, and study elemental lore in the Elemental Lords section.
