Ragnaros, the Firelord — an Elemental Lord of Fire imprisoned beneath the mountain for centuries. He is the final boss of the first 40-man raid in Classic WoW, Molten Core. Every guild's MC run ends at the Firelands pool where Ragnaros is awakened. He is one of the most iconic bosses in all of WoW history.

Fight Mechanics
Phase 1: Above Ground (100–75% HP)
Ragnaros emerges from the fire pool to fight. His main abilities:

Magma Blast is the main wipe condition. If any non-tank melee gets into melee range without a tank assignment, they receive massive damage and pull aggro. Keep all casters and healers at least 8 yards from Ragnaros at all times.
Phase 2: Submerge (every 3 minutes)
Ragnaros submerges for ~90 seconds. Sons of Ragnaros appear — fire elementals that must be killed before Ragnaros resurfaces.
Assign Sons before the fight starts. Each tank + 5–6 DPS focuses a single Son. Healers support everyone. If even one Son survives until Ragnaros re-emerges, it's a wipe.
Final Phase (25% HP)
Ragnaros stops submerging. All attacks are enhanced. The goal is simply to burn him down fast.

Eye of Ragnaros is required to craft the legendary hammer Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros — one of three Vanilla WoW legendaries. Crafting also requires Sulfuron Ingots (farmed before MC) and a recipe from Thorium Brotherhood (Exalted).

On x5 rates, Molten Core is significantly more dynamic:
With x5 rates, Ragnaros dies in roughly 3–4 minutes at good DPS. He only submerges once. This simplifies the tactic — focus on correct positioning and fast Son elimination during the single Submerge phase.
Greater Fire Protection Potions (full protection ~12 seconds) let you survive Submerge without dedicated healers on the Sons. Stock them before the raid — the recipe is available via Alchemy 290+.

What gear level is needed for Ragnaros?
A full Pre-BiS set from dungeons (Stratholme, Scholomance, UBRS) is recommended. Tanks need Fire Resistance 150+. On the x5 server, the raid generally does not require perfect Pre-BiS gear — solid blues with some FR enchants are sufficient.
How long does the Ragnaros fight take?
The fight itself lasts 6–10 minutes with steady DPS. However, clearing to Ragnaros through 8 bosses takes 1.5–2 hours. On x5 with an experienced group, the full raid runs in about 1 hour.
