Onyxia's Lair Access: Full Drakefire Amulet Attunement
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruThe Drakefire Amulet is your key to Onyxia's Lair, and without it you won't cross the threshold. Attunement is a long quest chain, different for Alliance and Horde but leading to the same reward. On the WoW x5 server this chain is quick, so don't put it off — all 40 raiders need the amulet.
What attunement gives you
Attunement is more than a "pass". Along the chain you:
- earn the Drakefire Amulet — without it the teleport into the lair in Dustwallow Marsh won't trigger;
- kill General Drakkisath in Upper Blackrock Spire, which pairs with farming BiS gear;
- gain solid reputation, XP and gold on the way.
The amulet is character-bound. A new player in the raid must run the chain themselves. Plan attunement ahead of the guild's first run.
Alliance chain
1. Lord Bolvar Fordragon — Stormwind, keep throne room. Starter quest (Dragonkin Menace line). 2. A series of tasks around Stormwind and the Eastern Kingdoms — gathering evidence on the dragon cult. 3. Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS): kill the general and take the proof item. You need a group of 10 here — combine it with a UBRS run. 4. Return to Bolvar → receive the Drakefire Amulet.
Horde chain
1. Rend Blackhand / Warchief Thrall — starting line through Orgrimmar and the Blackrock camp. 2. The *Eitrigg's Wisdom* series — prove your loyalty to the Horde and expose the dragonkin plot. 3. Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS): kill the general, take the proof (this step is essentially shared with Alliance). 4. Final quest with Thrall in Orgrimmar → Drakefire Amulet.

- Line up a UBRS group early — that's the bottleneck; on x5 the run is fast, but you need the Seal of Ascension key (or someone who has it).
- Run attunement alongside pre-raid BiS farming: UBRS drops the gear you want.

Is attunement required to enter Onyxia's Lair?
Yes. Without the Drakefire Amulet you cannot step into the raid — the portal won't work for you. The amulet is character-bound, so every raider must complete the chain themselves.
How long does attunement take on x5?
On x5 rates the whole chain takes an evening or two: reputation and XP come faster, and part of the chain overlaps with runs into Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS).
Do I need to redo the amulet after switching characters?
Yes, the amulet is bound to a specific character. A new character must redo the chain. Never sell or delete it — you'd have to start over.
