Molten Core: Complete Raid Guide for x5 Server

Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ru

Molten Core (MC) is the first classic 40-man raid in WoW Classic, located deep within Blackrock Mountain. It's the starting point for any raiding guild: Tier 1 sets drop here, along with the best pre-BWL weapons and Thunderfury legendary fragments. The raid is accessible from level 55, but confident progression starts at level 60 with solid pre-raid BiS gear.

Tip

On x5 rates leveling is faster. With regular play you'll have solid dungeon gear by level 60, allowing MC entry without prolonged preparation.

How to Get to Molten Core

The entrance is in the lower section of Blackrock Mountain:

  • Alliance: through Burning Steppes → Blackrock Mountain → down the chains
  • Horde: Searing Gorge → Blackrock Mountain → down the chains

Inside Blackrock Mountain, find the fire portal in the lower central area — that's the MC entrance.

Fire Resistance Requirements

Fire resistance is not critical for most bosses. Exceptions:

EncounterRecommended FR
Gehennas, Garr0–50
Ragnaros150–200 (healers, tanks)

FR is obtained through Hydraxian Waterlords reputation (shield/cloak enchant) and blacksmithing crafted gear.

Raid Composition

40 people:

  • 8–9 tanks (3–4 warrior MTs, 4–5 offtanks)
  • 14–16 healers (priests, shamans, druids, paladins)
  • 15–18 DPS (mages, hunters, warlocks, warrior DPS, rogues, enhancement shamans)

Recommended classes for MC:

  • Mages — mass AoE and decurse (Spellsteal)
  • Priests — Mass Dispel, healing
  • Hunters — consistent ranged DPS
  • Warlocks — curses, support

Route and Bosses

MC is cleared in a specific order — bosses cannot be skipped.

1. Lucifron

First boss. Two guards must be killed or kited separately. Lucifron uses Impending Doom (mages decurse) and Lucifron's Curse (spell cost debuff — remove every 30 sec).

Tactic: kill guards, tank Lucifron in the center, mages decurse Impending Doom.

2. Magmadar

Main threat — Panic (nearby players flee in fear). Keep boss away from the main raid. Fear is countered by paladin blessings or shaman Tremor Totem.

3. Gehennas

Three bosses simultaneously: Gehennas and two adds. Rain of Fire — AoE, move out of fire. Remove debuffs quickly.

4. Garr

8 adds surrounding Garr. Each needs a separate tank. Adds explode on death — stagger their kills. Thunderfury Left Binding drops here.

5. Baron Geddon

Living Bomb — Geddon marks one player as a living bomb. That player must run away from the raid before it explodes. Thunderfury Right Binding drops here.

6. Shazzrah

Teleports into the raid center and deals AoE. Don't stack tightly. Weaker after Geddon is dead.

7. Sulfuron Harbinger

4 priest adds that heal Sulfuron. Kill priests first or the boss is nearly immortal. After priests — focus Sulfuron.

8. Golemagg the Incinerator

Two pup adds that must NOT be killed — killing them enrages Golemagg (wipe). Tank adds separately throughout the encounter.

9. Majordomo Executus

8 adds: 4 warriors and 4 mages. Kill mages first — they heal warriors. After all 8 adds die, Majordomo surrenders and opens the path to Ragnaros.

10. Ragnaros — Final Boss

Most difficult encounter. Main threats:

  • Wrath of Ragnaros (massive AoE with knockback — all raiders stay far from lava edge)
  • Elemental Fire (debuff on one player — isolate from raid)
  • Submerge — every 3 minutes Ragnaros dives under lava, a wave of elementals attacks
  • Sons of Flame — elementals rush toward Ragnaros; stop them fast (slow, roots)

Fire resistance 150–200 for healers and tanks is mandatory.
