Sulfuron Harbinger: tactics, loot and tips for WoW x5
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruWho Is Sulfuron Harbinger
Sulfuron Harbinger is the second-to-last "regular" Molten Core boss before Golemagg and the final Majordomo–Ragnaros sequence. He isn't the tankiest, but he doesn't come alone: four Flamewaker Priests heal him and each other non-stop. That turns the fight into a test of interrupt coordination.
The boss has extra value: he drops the Sulfuron Ingot, a material for the legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. So Sulfuron is killed on every run, even after the main loot is done.
Raid Requirements
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | 40-player raid |
| Min level | 60 |
| Mandatory | 4+ off-tanks/holders on the priests |
| Key skill | Coordinated heal interrupts |
| Interrupters | Mages, Rogues, Warriors, Shamans (Earth Shock) |
Fight Mechanics
The core of the fight isn't the boss — it's his retinue of four priests.
| Ability / target | Effect | Raid response |
|---|---|---|
| Flamewaker Priest — Heal | Priests heal the boss and each other | Interrupt every heal cast, no gaps |
| Flamewaker Priest — Shadow Word: Pain / Immolate | DoTs on the raid | Healers watch DoTs, decurse where possible |
| Inspire | Priests buff each other | Split priests, deny shared buffs |
| Sulfuron — Demoralizing Shout | Lowers melee attack power | Endure, heal the tanks |
| Sulfuron — Knockdown / Flame Spear | Stun and damage on target | Don't tank near ledges or lava |
The main mistake is too few interrupts. Four priests, left un-silenced, out-heal the boss and each other faster than the raid deals damage. Assign dedicated interrupters per priest and a rotation so no Heal ever lands.
Splitting priests and kill order
Spread the priests onto different off-tanks so they're easier to interrupt individually and can't raise each other via Inspire. Then two approaches: either kill the priests one at a time (with interrupters on the rest), or keep them all locked down and burn the boss. The first is easier for new raids, the second faster for a practiced group.
Build an "interrupt team": 1–2 people per priest, working in rotation (Kick → Pummel → Earth Shock → Counterspell). A missed Heal resets progress — interrupt discipline beats raw DPS here.
Step-by-step Tactics
1. Pull and split. Off-tanks drag the four Flamewaker Priests to separate spots; the main tank takes Sulfuron. 2. Interrupts. Assigned interrupters shut down priest heals in rotation, missing none. 3. Target order. The raid kills priests one at a time (or locks them all and hits the boss — RL's call). 4. Boss execute. Once the retinue is controlled/dead, the raid focuses Sulfuron. 5. Grab the Ingot. Don't forget the Sulfuron Ingot if anyone is building Sulfuras.
Raid Composition
| Role | Count | Task |
|---|---|---|
| Main Tank | 1 | Holds Sulfuron |
| Off-Tanks | 3–4 | One per priest |
| Interrupters | 4–6 | Interrupt rotation on priest heals |
| Healers | 8–12 | Keep tanks up through DoTs |
| DPS | 18–22 | Priests one by one, then boss |
Sulfuron Loot
| Item | Type | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Sulfuron Ingot | Material | Crafting the legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros |
| T1 Shoulders | Plate/Mail/Cloth | Tier 1 shoulders, various classes |
| T1 Legs | Plate/Mail/Cloth | Tier 1 legs, various classes |
| Gutgore Ripper | Dagger | Rogue — strong dagger with a proc |
The Sulfuron Ingot is the main reason to farm this boss even after gearing up: without ingots there's no legendary Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. Gutgore Ripper stays a BiS dagger for rogues for a long time thanks to its strong stat-reducing proc.
Tips for WoW x5
On x5 raid damage is high, so the "kill priests one by one" approach goes fast — but interrupts are still mandatory: even a couple of missed Heals on x5 restore a large chunk of a priest's health at once. The interrupt rotation decides everything.
If you're building Sulfuras — on x5 ingot farming goes noticeably faster thanks to frequent raids. Track who has already received a Sulfuron Ingot to distribute fairly.
Next you'll face Golemagg, then the wing's finale — Majordomo and Ragnaros. See the full route in the Molten Core guide. Join the raids by registering on wowx5.ru and downloading the client.
FAQ
Why is Sulfuron considered a tough Molten Core boss?
Sulfuron is escorted by four Flamewaker Priests who constantly heal the boss and each other. If their heals aren't interrupted, the fight drags on and the raid can't push damage through. The main task is to split the priests and shut down their healing with interrupts (Counterspell, Kick, Pummel, Earth Shock, Shield Bash).
What is the Sulfuron Ingot and why does it matter?
Sulfuron Harbinger drops the Sulfuron Ingot — a key material for crafting the legendary mace Sulfuras, Hand of Ragnaros. You need several ingots, so Sulfuron is farmed regularly by anyone building the legendary.
How do you handle the four priests?
Split the priests onto different off-tanks and spread them out so heals are easy to interrupt. Either kill them one at a time with assigned interrupters, or keep them fully locked down while the raid works the boss. The order is agreed in advance.
