An attunement is a quest or condition that unlocks entry to a raid. Without it you can't get inside or use the teleport. Do your attunements ahead of time so you don't hold up the group. Below are all the Vanilla attunements.
What an attunement is
An attunement is a preparatory quest that grants raid access: a teleport to the entrance, a key, or the ability to activate a portal. Some raids need no attunement. You can complete an attunement in advance, solo or in a small group.
Molten Core
"Attunement to the Core". The entrance to Molten Core is hidden deep inside Blackrock Depths.
1. Run BRD all the way down to the lava's edge near the Ring of Law. 2. By the MC entrance, find Lothos Riftwaker. 3. After your first visit he offers a teleport straight to the entrance — no more running through BRD.
Tip: bring someone who is already attuned so you can teleport as a group.
Onyxia
The Drakefire Amulet chain. A long class-based quest chain.
1. It starts with a quest in Wetlands / Dustwallow Marsh (depending on faction). 2. The key step is killing General Drakkisath in UBRS for "Drakkisath's Brand". 3. The finale is meeting Marshal Windsor and exposing Lady Prestor in the capital.
The reward is the amulet that opens the lair of Onyxia.
Blackwing Lair
"Blackhand's Command". Requires access to UBRS.
1. In UBRS, by General Drakkisath's room, find the Tablet of Blackhand's Command. 2. Read it to receive the attunement. 3. You can now use the Orb of Command at the entrance to Blackwing Lair atop Blackrock Mountain.
Naxxramas
"The Dread Citadel — Naxxramas". The attunement is tied to Argent Dawn reputation.
1. Reach Honored with the Argent Dawn and pay a fee (or Revered — free). 2. Receive the signet/trinket that opens entry to Naxxramas above the Eastern Plaguelands.

Suggested order
Do the Molten Core attunement first (most needed), then Onyxia and BWL, and Naxxramas last, later in your progression. After your attunements, move on to your first raid.

FAQ
Do I need an attunement for Zul'Gurub?
No. Zul'Gurub, Ruins of Ahn'Qiraj (AQ20) and world bosses need no attunement — just level 60 and a group.
Can I do the Molten Core attunement solo?
Reaching Lothos Riftwaker in BRD solo is hard because of the mobs. Most players grab the attunement during a normal group BRD run.
How do I get into Naxxramas?
You must reach Honored with the Argent Dawn and pay a fee (or Revered for free), after which you receive a key item.
Is an attunement lost after a phase change or relog?
No. An attunement stays on your character permanently, like a completed quest or an acquired item.
