# Your First Raid in WoW Classic

Your first raid is a major milestone in WoW Classic. The idea of 40 players and unfamiliar mechanics scares many, but it's simpler than it looks. This guide explains where to start, how to find a group and what to bring.

Which raid to start with

The entry-level raid content of Vanilla is:

  • Molten Core (40 players) — the first and most accessible raid. Ideal for a first run.
  • Onyxia (40 players) — a single boss, great coordination practice.
  • Zul'Gurub (20 players) — no attunement, easier to fill.

The recommended first raid is Molten Core. Boss mechanics are simple and the loot (Tier 1) is the base for further progress.

Requirements before entering

1. Level 60 — mandatory. 2. Pre-raid gear — blues from dungeons. See the pre-raid gearing guide. 3. Attunement — MC needs the teleport from Lothos. See the attunements guide. 4. Consumables — potions, food, reagents. See raid consumables.

How to find a group

  • Join a guild — the most reliable way. Guilds run regular raids.
  • Look for pugs in world chat and the server forum.
  • Show up on time with consumables — that gets you invited back.

What to bring

CategoryExamples
PotionsHealing, mana, fire protection
Buff food+stamina, +spirit
ReagentsFor resurrection, portals, totems
Resist gearFire resistance for Ragnaros

For fire bosses (Ragnaros, Garr) you'll want resistance gear.

Raid roles

  • Tanks hold bosses and manage aggro.
  • Healers heal tanks and the raid.
  • DPS deal damage without pulling threat off the tank.

Learn your role in advance — see the raiding guide and raid preparation.

Etiquette

  • Listen to the raid leader and stick to the tactics.
  • Don't pull bosses early.
  • Respect loot rules (usually /roll or loot council).

What's next

After Molten Core you unlock Blackwing Lair, then Ahn'Qiraj and Naxxramas. Each raid is a new tier of gear and difficulty.

FAQ

Which raid should a beginner start with?

Molten Core (40 players) — the entry-level raid with simple mechanics and base Tier 1 loot. An alternative is Zul'Gurub for 20 players with no attunement.

How many people do I need for a first raid?

Molten Core and Onyxia are for 40 players, Zul'Gurub for 20. Early in progression you can realistically field 25–30 and clear the first bosses.

What must I bring to a first raid?

Level 60, pre-raid gear, a completed attunement, potions, buff food and reagents. For fire bosses, fire resistance gear.

How do I find a raid group without a guild?

Look for pugs in world chat and the server forum, but joining a guild is the most reliable path to regular raids.
