Zul'Gurub (ZG): Complete 20-man Raid Guide
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruZul'Gurub (ZG) is the first 20-man raid of WoW Classic, added in patch 1.7. These tropical troll ruins sit in Stranglethorn Vale, home to the blood god Hakkar the Soulflayer. ZG is famous for its short 3-day reset, solid level 60 loot, Zandalar Tribe enchants and the iconic tiger and raptor mounts.
Entry Requirements for ZG
| Parameter | Minimum | Recommended |
|---|---|---|
| Level | 60 | 60 |
| Gear | Dungeon BiS | Pre-raid BiS / T1 |
| Roster | 20 players | 2 tanks, 5 healers, ~13 DPS |
The short reset (every 3 days) makes ZG the best source of regular gear and reputation on x5. Set up a clear route — one run can gather half of a Zandalar set.
How to Enter Zul'Gurub
The ZG entrance is in Stranglethorn Vale, on an island in the northwest near Grom'gol/Gurubashi. The portal leads straight into the ruins. Access is free, no key required.
Bosses and Hakkar's Priests
The key ZG mechanic is the High Priests. Each grants Hakkar an ability; killing a priest removes that ability from the final boss. You do not have to kill all priests, but doing so makes the Hakkar fight easier.
Bloodlord Mandokir
Rides a raptor. Overpower and an execute when a player dies (Watch out! Ok this'll do). Comes with his pet raptor Ohgan.
High Priest Venoxis
The serpent priest. Grants Hakkar poison. Transforms into a snake-hydra in phase two.
High Priestess Jeklik
The bat priestess. Bat form, summons bats, life drain. Grants Hakkar a bat ability.
High Priestess Mar'li
The spider priestess. Summons spider eggs and cocoons. Grants Hakkar a bleed spell.
High Priest Thekal
The tiger priest. Double resurrection — he dies three times (kill him and two healers together). One of the most technical ZG fights.
High Priestess Arlokk
The panther priestess. Vanishes into stealth, summons panthers. Grants Hakkar a charge ability.
Jin'do the Hexxer
Optional boss. Mind Control, shadow chains, skeleton summons. Stands before Hakkar.
Hakkar the Soulflayer — final
The main mechanic is Corrupted Blood (spreads between players) and Blood Siphon: Hakkar drains life. The key is the priests: the more High Priests you kill first, the fewer abilities Hakkar has. The classic trick is to make Hakkar drink poisoned blood via a debuff.
Loot, Mounts and Reputation
ZG drops level 60 gear, Zandalar Tribe enchants (shoulders, chest, etc.) and rare mounts: the Swift Razzashi Raptor and Swift Zulian Tiger. Zandalar reputation comes from turning in coins and bijous looted in the raid.

FAQ
How often does ZG reset?
Every 3 days — the shortest cooldown among Vanilla raids. That makes ZG a steady source of gear and reputation.
Do I have to kill all priests before Hakkar?
No, but each surviving priest grants Hakkar an extra ability. Experienced raids kill them all for an easy final fight.
Where do the ZG mounts drop?
The tiger from High Priestess Arlokk, the raptor from Bloodlord Mandokir. Both are rare with a low chance.
