High Priest Venoxis is the first of the five priest-gods of Zul'Gurub, a servant of the poison god Hethiss. He stands right at the raid entrance and often acts as a "test boss" for fresh groups: straightforward mechanics, but an immediate check on whether the raid can handle poisons.
The fight has two phases: Venoxis begins as a humanoid casting poison spells, then transforms into a cobra for a melee finish.

Phase one: humanoid
The tank holds Venoxis in place. Casters attack from range. The main issue is Serpent Vengeance: it constantly poisons random targets, and without cleansing healers cannot keep up. A shaman with Poison Cleansing Totem in the DPS group makes a huge difference.
The statue bubbles around Venoxis empower him if activated — do not click interactive objects and warn the raid to stay away from them.
Phase two: cobra
At ~30% HP Venoxis casts Holy Wrath (stun) and transforms into a cobra. In this form he attacks faster in melee but has low health. Burst phase: all DPS switch to the finish; healers hold the tank.
During Holy Wrath the whole raid is briefly stunned. If healers do not have a HoT running, the tank may die. Healers should apply HoTs before the transformation.
Step-by-Step Tactics
1. Assign poison cleansing in advance: Priest A cleanses the tank, Priest B cleanses the ranged; shaman drops Poison Cleansing Totem. 2. Tank holds Venoxis, everyone hits his back. 3. On Holy Wrath — healers pre-cast HoTs, then wait for the stun to end. 4. On transformation — burst; the boss dies in 10–15 seconds.

Cloak of the Brood Lord is one of the best cloaks for hunters for a long time. If a hunter is in the raid, prioritize them.
Tips for WoW x5
On x5 the fight is short — Venoxis falls fast if the raid cleanses poisons and does not lose people to DoTs. Use him as a "calibration run" for poison cleansing before moving to harder ZG bosses.
Do not blow cooldowns in phase one — save a bit for the cobra burst. It speeds up the finish and reduces raid damage taken.
