Gehennas: tactics, loot and tips for WoW x5
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruWho Is Gehennas
Gehennas is one of the Flamewaker lieutenants in Molten Core, the third boss of the wing after Magmadar. He is a tall demonic flame guardian flanked by two attendants. Unlike Magmadar, the danger here isn't an enrage — it's a curse that breaks healing and a constant AoE rain of fire.
Gehennas is the raid's first real decurse test. If the curse isn't removed in time, no amount of healing saves the tank.
Raid Requirements
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | 40-player raid |
| Min level | 60 |
| Mandatory | 2–3 decursers (Mages/Druids) |
| Add control | 1–2 off-tanks on Flamewakers |
| Key consumables | Fire Protection Potion |
Fight Mechanics
No phases — the raid simultaneously holds the boss, removes the curse and clears the adds.
| Ability | Effect | Raid response |
|---|---|---|
| Gehennas' Curse | Reduces incoming healing by ~75% | Decursers clear the tank immediately |
| Rain of Fire | Fire rain in a ground zone | Move out, never stand in fire |
| Flamewaker Adds | Two attendants dealing damage | Off-tank, raid kills/controls them |
| Auto-attacks | Steady tank damage | Classic tank + healers pairing |
Gehennas' Curse is the key mechanic. While it's on the tank, healing is cut by three quarters and any burst kills him. Decursers must prioritise the tank, not chase curses on DPS.
Rain of fire and adds
Rain of Fire periodically covers a patch of floor — deadly to stand in, especially for cloth. The raid knows its "clean" spots in advance. The two Flamewaker attendants add damage: off-tank and kill first, or hold while the raid works the boss.
Split decurser duties: one or two strictly on the tank, the rest clearing curses on melee. That way the tank never sits with an active curse and the raid doesn't lose DPS to stray curses.
Step-by-step Tactics
1. Positioning. Tank holds Gehennas, melee behind, ranged and healers out of Rain of Fire zones. 2. Adds first. Off-tank gathers the two Flamewakers; the raid kills them first or keeps them controlled. 3. Decurse the tank. Assigned decursers strip Gehennas' Curse from the tank the instant it appears. 4. Move from fire. On rain of fire, marked positions clear immediately. 5. Finish. After the adds, the raid focuses the boss with steady damage.
Raid Composition
| Role | Count | Task |
|---|---|---|
| Main Tank | 1 | Holds Gehennas |
| Off-Tank | 1–2 | Catches the Flamewaker adds |
| Decursers | 2–3 | Remove Curse from tank and melee |
| Healers | 8–12 | Keep the tank up through the curse |
| DPS | 20–24 | Adds, then boss, out of fire |
Gehennas Loot
| Item | Type | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| T1 Shoulders | Plate/Mail/Cloth | Tier 1 shoulders, various classes |
| T1 Legs | Plate/Mail/Cloth | Tier 1 legs, various classes |
| Wristguards / Gloves | Leather/Mail | Bracers and gloves with MC damage bonus |
Tier 1 shoulders are a noticeable step toward your class set, which grants bonus damage against Molten Core creatures. Combine them with gloves from Garr to complete your first set bonus faster.
Tips for WoW x5
On x5 the raid clears the adds fast, so the priority is never missing the curse. Agree on a sound/mark for decursers: the instant the curse lands on the tank, remove it within a second.
The faster x5 pace means Rain of Fire lands fewer ticks — but cloth still can't risk it. Keep the reflex of stepping out of fire; it saves you on Baron Geddon and Ragnaros.
Next in the wing are Garr and Baron Geddon. See the full route in the Molten Core guide. Join the raids by registering on wowx5.ru and downloading the client.
FAQ
What does Gehennas' Curse do and how do you remove it?
Gehennas' Curse reduces incoming healing by roughly 75%. If it sits on the tank, heals barely work and he dies. Decursers remove it — Mages via Remove Curse and Druids via Remove Curse. Assign 2–3 decursers who prioritise clearing the tank.
How many adds does Gehennas have?
Gehennas is escorted by two Flamewaker adds. Off-tank them and kill them first, or keep them controlled while the raid works the boss — they hit hard and pressure the healers.
What loot drops from Gehennas?
Gehennas drops Tier 1 items (shoulders and legs for various classes) plus gloves and bracers with Molten Core damage bonuses. Part of the Pre-BiS set heading into BWL.
