High Priest Thekal: tactics and loot for WoW x5
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruWho Is High Priest Thekal
High Priest Thekal is the priest of the tiger god Shirvallah and the most mechanically unusual of the five Zul'Gurub priest-gods. The fight is unique: Thekal is not alone — two zealots always stand beside him, Zealot Zath and Zealot Lor'Khan. You cannot kill one without killing the rest at the same time.
If even one zealot survives, the dead ones resurrect with full health. The entire raid must coordinate their killing blows.
Raid Requirements
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | 20-player raid |
| Min level | 60 |
| Mandatory | Synchronized kill of all three (within seconds) |
| Strategy | Three squads; signal for the final burst |
| Consumables | Healing potions |
Fight Mechanics
| Ability / mechanic | Effect | Raid response |
|---|---|---|
| Resurrection | Any survivor resurrects the dead at full HP | Kill all three within ~2–3 seconds |
| Finisher (Thekal) | Heavy hit on the tank | Healers hold the main tank |
| Sinister Strike / Gouge (Zath) | Fast rogue attacker | Tank holds, do not panic on Gouge |
| Renew / Heal (Lor'Khan) | Heals Thekal and Zath | Interrupt heals or kill Lor'Khan first |
Splitting into squads
Three targets — three groups:
- Squad A (main DPS) — Thekal (primary target)
- Squad B — Zealot Zath
- Squad C — Zealot Lor'Khan (healer zealot, best finished slightly after)
The raid leader watches the HP percent of all three. When all are at roughly 10–15%, the leader gives the signal (voice/macro) and everyone kills their target instantly.
Killing Zath or Thekal while the others are alive makes the dead resurrect at full HP. All the work is lost. Practice the signal and do not rush the killing blow.
Tiger transformation
After the synchronized kill Thekal resurrects as a tiger with low HP (~20% of the original). In this form he hits fast and hard. The raid bursts for 10–15 seconds — nothing more needed.
Hold personal DPS cooldowns for the tiger phase — it is short and decided quickly.
Step-by-Step Tactics
1. Assign three squads: one per target. 2. Drain all three HP bars simultaneously, letting no one die early. 3. Watch Lor'Khan's casts — interrupt her heals (Kick/Shield Bash/Counterspell). 4. On the signal at ~10% on all — synchronized killing blows. 5. Tiger phase — quick burst.
Raid Composition
| Role | Count | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Tanks | 3 | One per target |
| Interrupters | 1–2 | Interrupt Lor'Khan's Heal |
| Healers | 4–5 | Distributed across groups |
| DPS | rest | One per target, synchronized finish |
Thekal Loot
| Item | Type | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Zulian Stone Axe | 2h Axe | Warrior/shaman — strong two-hander |
| Puncturing Spike | Dagger | Rogue |
| Thekal's Grasp | Staff | Druid/Priest — caster staff |
Zulian Stone Axe is one of the best two-handed axes in the ZG tier for warrior DPS. Thekal's Grasp is solid for Resto Druids.
Tips for WoW x5
Practice the signal with the raid leader on warm-up bosses: "on my call — kill yours." On x5 damage is high and accidentally killing one target early with poor coordination is easy.
Lor'Khan is a healer: finish her slightly ahead of the others or interrupt her casts continuously. If she heals — Thekal's HP does not drop evenly and the sync breaks.
Other ZG bosses: High Priestess Arlokk, Bloodlord Mandokir. Full route in the Zul'Gurub guide. Join by registering on wowx5.ru.
FAQ
Why must all three be killed simultaneously?
Thekal, Zealot Zath and Zealot Lor'Khan are linked: if one dies while the others are alive, the dead one resurrects with full HP. The raid must deliver the killing blow to all three within a few seconds, or the fight never ends.
How does Thekal's tiger transformation work?
When all three are killed simultaneously Thekal resurrects as a tiger with very little HP. In this form he hits far harder in melee. The raid does a quick 10–15 second burst and finishes him.
What loot drops from High Priest Thekal?
Thekal drops the Zulian Stone Axe (BiS two-handed axe), Puncturing Spike (rogue dagger) and Thekal's Grasp staff.
