Flamegor: tactics and loot for WoW x5
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruWho Is Flamegor
Flamegor is the sixth boss of Blackwing Lair and the last of the three wing drakes. He closes the drake combo and is the simplest of the three mechanically: no Ebonroc self-heal, no tricks — just the shared kit plus Frenzy.
Like Magmadar in Molten Core, Flamegor periodically enrages, and only a Hunter's Tranquilizing Shot can remove it. Otherwise it is the familiar Shadow Flame and Wing Buffet already practiced on Firemaw and Ebonroc.
Raid Requirements
| Parameter | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | 40-player raid |
| Min level | 60 |
| Mandatory | 1–2 Hunters for Tranquilizing Shot |
| Recommended | Fire Resistance, 2 tanks |
| Consumables | Fire Protection Potion, healing potions |
Fight Mechanics
The familiar drake base plus an enrage, like Magmadar.
| Ability | Effect | Raid response |
|---|---|---|
| Frenzy | Enrage: sharp attack-speed increase | Hunter removes it immediately with Tranquilizing Shot |
| Shadow Flame | Frontal cone breath, heavy DoT | Do not stand in front (except the tank) |
| Wing Buffet | Frontal knockback + threat drop | Dead zone, off-tank taunt |
| Fire debuff | Periodic fire on the raid | Healers + FR sets |
Frenzy and the Hunter
Frenzy on Flamegor works just like Magmadar's: without a dispel the tank folds in a few hits. The assigned Hunter does nothing but Tranquilizing Shot and removes the enrage the moment it appears. With two Hunters, alternate to cover the cooldown.
A missed Frenzy on Flamegor is as lethal as on Magmadar: the enraged dragon kills the tank in 3–4 hits, especially on x5 where auto-attacks are already fast. Keep a Hunter who does nothing but track the enrage.
Step-by-Step Tactics
1. Assign a Hunter on Frenzy. One or two Hunters do only Tranquilizing Shot; with two, alternate so there is no gap. 2. Hold the dead zone. The MT keeps the dragon under control through Wing Buffet, off-tank on threat. 3. Hit from behind. Melee back/side, outside Shadow Flame; ranged behind the dragon. 4. Fire Resistance. An FR set reduces damage, as on the other drakes. 5. Steady DPS. Few mechanics — hold damage and clear Frenzy on time until the boss dies.
Raid Composition
| Role | Count | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Main Tank | 1 | Holds the dragon in the dead zone |
| Off Tank | 1 | Taunts after Wing Buffet |
| Hunters | 1–2 | Tranquilizing Shot on every Frenzy |
| Healers | 8–10 | Tank + raid |
| DPS | rest | Damage back/side |
Flamegor Loot
| Item | Type | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 2 token | Token | Tier 2 pieces (shared drake pool) |
| Chromatic Boots | Plate Boots | Tank/warrior — sturdy plate boots |
| Emberweave Leggings | Mail Legs | Hunter/shaman — mail legs |
| Drake Fang Talisman | Trinket | Melee — dodge and attack (shared pool) |
Flamegor closes the wing-drake combo: after looting Firemaw, Ebonroc and Flamegor the raid has most of Tier 2 and is ready for Chromaggus.
Tips for WoW x5
On x5 this is the easiest of the three drakes, but Frenzy is dangerous at any rate:
With two Hunters, write out the Frenzy-dispel order in advance so you reliably cover the Tranquilizing Shot cooldown and no enrage slips through.
On x5 Flamegor drops fast under the raid's combined damage, so do not chase DPS at the expense of mechanics — clearing Frenzy matters more than extra damage numbers.
The last hurdle before Nefarian is Chromaggus. The full route is in the Blackwing Lair guide. To join, register on wowx5.ru.
FAQ
Why is a Hunter needed on Flamegor?
Flamegor periodically goes into Frenzy — his attack speed spikes and the tank can die in seconds. Only a Hunter's Tranquilizing Shot removes Frenzy, so, just like Magmadar in Molten Core, the fight always assigns a Hunter to watch the enrage.
How does Flamegor differ from Firemaw and Ebonroc?
Flamegor shares Shadow Flame and Wing Buffet with them, but his unique mechanic is Frenzy, removed by Tranquilizing Shot. He has no self-heal like Ebonroc, so after the drake combo his fight is the most straightforward of the three.
What loot drops from Flamegor?
Flamegor drops Tier 2 pieces (shared drake pool), the Chromatic Boots plate boots, the Emberweave Leggings mail legs and a neck. His drops overlap with Firemaw and Ebonroc.
