Raid markers and kill order in WoW Classic
When a pull has 6 mobs, shouting "hit that one!" is useless. Raid markers — 8 icons over targets' heads — silently show what to kill first, what to keep in crowd control and which mobs the tanks are holding. Here is how to set marks in WoW Classic 1.12 and how to build a kill order so packs fall fast and clean.
The classic kill order: skull is the first target, cross the second. Anything marked circle/square/moon usually goes to crowd control (sheep, sap, trap). DPS simply hit the skull — and the raid focuses without a word.

◆The eight target icons
WoW Classic 1.12 has 8 raid markers: star, circle, diamond, triangle, moon, square, cross and skull. The party/raid leader or an assigned assist sets them via the target menu (or a macro).
- marks are visible to the whole raid over the mob's head and on its portrait;
- a given mark can only be on one target at a time;
- marks are the raid's wordless language: set right, they replace calls.
◆The classic kill order
A convention every veteran knows:
| Icon | Role |
|---|---|
| Skull | first target — all DPS hit it |
| Cross | second target |
| Square | sometimes third / a cleanup target |
| Moon | crowd-control target (sheep/shackle) |
| Diamond | crowd-control target (sap/banish) |
| Triangle | hunter trap / sleep |
Focusing the skull saves time: the target falls faster than if the raid smears damage across the pack.
Marks for CC and tanks
- Crowd control — targets under CC get moon/diamond so no one breaks the sheep with stray damage.
- Tanks — the off-tank holds adds marked square/triangle (see main and off-tank).
- Pull — the puller marks the target before combat so the raid knows the priority instantly.
How to set marks quickly
- right-click the target → icon in the menu;
- macro:
/script SetRaidTarget("target", 8)— 8 is skull, 7 cross, and so on; - bind macros to keybindings to mark in one tap;
- the leader, assists and master looter have the right to set marks.
Marks as part of raid tactics
Marks are the raid leader's tool: they hand out roles, assign decursing and the kill order before the pull. A well-marked pack is half the success of a first raid. On WowX5 x5 you will reach mark-driven raids fast. Create an account, download the game and connect to play.wowx5.ru.
