Decursing and dispelling in WoW Classic: the decurse guide
Half of raid deaths come not from damage but from an unremoved debuff: a damage-reducing curse, a ticking poison, a stat-draining disease or an AoE magic effect. In WoW Classic 1.12 each debuff type is removed by a specific class with a specific spell. Here is who cleanses what, and how to assign decursing so debuffs never stack up.
Debuffs come in 4 types: curse, poison, disease, magic — there is no universal "remove all". Only a mage and a druid remove a curse; a priest cannot cure poison. Assign responsibilities ahead of time and install Decursive — it dispenses removals on one click.

The four debuff types
In vanilla harmful effects come in types, each removed by its own spell:

There is no universal removal: if the tank has a curse, a priest is helpless — you need a mage or druid.
◆Who removes what by class
- Mage — Remove Lesser Curse (the only full decurser alongside the druid).
- Druid — Remove Curse, Cure/Abolish Poison; curses and poisons.
- Priest — Dispel Magic (friendly and offensive), Cure/Abolish Disease.
- Paladin — Cleanse (poison, disease, magic — one each), Purify.
- Shaman — Cure Poison and Disease, Poison/Disease Cleansing Totems (auto-cleanse the group).
Magic on an enemy (an absorb shield, say) is stripped by Purge/Spellsteal — but that is offensive dispel.
The Decursive addon and assignments
Hunting debuffs by hand across 40 players is impossible. The fix is the Decursive addon: it highlights afflicted players and removes the effect with one click/key.
- assign 2–3 curse decursers (mages/druids) — their removal is the scarcest;
- on poison/disease bosses seat responsible shamans/paladins/priests;
- bind removals to handy macros and keybindings.
Bosses where decursing decides the fight
- Molten Core: curses on tanks and raid — keep mages on decurse.
- BWL, Chromaggus: stacking debuffs, critical to remove in time.
- AQ40: AoE poisons and curses — split removals across groups.
A debuff not removed in time often equals a wipe; see wipe recovery.
Fitting decursing into the raid
