Keybindings are assigning abilities to hotkeys instead of clicking the bar with the mouse. Well-tuned controls are one of the most underrated advantages in WoW Classic: faster reactions, freer hands, and in combat and PvP that often matters more than an extra raid item.
Do not try to bind everything at once. Start with the 8-10 most frequent abilities on convenient keys near your left hand, get used to them, and only then add the rest. A sudden jump to full binding throws you off more than it helps.
Why stop clicking
A clicker selects abilities by moving the mouse to an icon and clicking it. The problem is the mouse is busy and cannot turn the camera or move the character at the same time. While you aim at a button, the mage has already hit Frost Nova and the rogue has slipped behind you.
Keybindings solve this: an ability fires instantly on a keypress while the mouse stays free for looking and moving. It is the base of efficient play — it pays off in both the PvE rotation and PvP.
What to bind and where
A sensible binding scheme is built around keys your left hand reaches easily:

Keyboard versus mouse turning
A separate habit of the efficient player is mouse-look turning, not keyboard turning:
- Keyboard turning (left-right arrows) is slow and turns the character with a delay — fatal in combat.
- Mouse-look (hold the right button and drag) is instant and precise, and A and D are better rebound to strafe (side steps).
Strafing lets you hit and move at the same time, dodging the enemy without turning away. For the hunter and mage it is also a way to shoot on the move.
Action bars and addons
The default interface can be improved:
1. Extra bars. Enable the bottom and side action bars in settings to place more bound buttons. 2. Bar addons (for example from the addons guide) give a flexible layout and handy modifiers. 3. Macros. Combine related actions — fewer buttons and faster reactions. 4. A class profile. Set the binds once and keep the scheme consistent across characters — muscle memory is priceless.
