Crushing Blows — WoW Classic
The crushing blow is the flip side of the attack table: now it is not you swinging, it is the boss hitting you. It is the main reason a raid tank in WoW Classic can never feel completely safe. Here is the mechanic for WowX5 x5 players.
A crushing blow adds +50% damage on top of a normal one. It is only dealt by creatures that are three or more levels above the target.
◆Who deals crushing blows
Crushing blows are the province of mobs and bosses. A player character cannot crush an enemy — on the attack table players have no such outcome. But a level 63 boss crushes a level 60 tank, and that is the most dangerous source of incoming damage.
Why a tank never becomes immune
In later WoW versions crushing blows can be "pushed off" the table by stacking enough dodge, parry and block. In Vanilla this is unreachable — the total avoidance is not enough. So a tank:
- keeps high defense to lower the crushing chance;
- maximises dodge, parry and block;
- uses the warrior Shield Block ability on dangerous phases.
