Qiraji are an intelligent race of insectoid creatures that rule the empire of Ahn'Qiraj under the Old God C'Thun. Where the silithid are a mindless swarm, the qiraji stand at the top of the insectoid races: they cast spells, raise cities and command the whole hive as priests and warlords.
Do not confuse qiraji with wild silithid. Qiraji are intelligent and dangerous with magic: their casters strike with shadow and illusion, and their warriors fight with purpose rather than blind rush.
An empire behind the seal
The qiraji built the greatest insect empire in the sands of Silithus. Roughly a thousand years ago they unleashed the War of the Shifting Sands against the night elves and the bronze flight. At a terrible cost the swarm was driven behind the Scarab Wall and sealed, but the empire only gathered strength.
