Insectoid races are the ancient swarm of Ahn'Qiraj, the oldest terror of Kalimdor's deserts. Born of the will of the Old God C'Thun, the swarm is split into castes: wild silithid drones, intelligent qiraji rulers and obsidian-clad anubisath. Understanding their hierarchy means grasping the full threat of Ahn'Qiraj.
The swarm works like an anthill: mindless silithid dig and multiply, qiraji command and cast spells, and anubisath stand as an unbreakable wall. Below is a map of the hive with links to detailed pages.
Three castes of the swarm
The base of the swarm are the silithid, wild insects of Silithus. Nearly mindless, they obey outside wills but overwhelm by numbers. Above them stand the qiraji — an intelligent race of priests and warlords who built an empire and waged the War of the Shifting Sands. Their elite are the anubisath, warriors whose flesh was fused with obsidian.
Home of the swarm — Silithus
The whole swarm nests in the sands of Silithus, in three vast silithid hives and beyond the Scarab Wall, where the ruins of Ahn'Qiraj slumber. Only the Cenarion Circle from Cenarion Hold keeps them in check.
