Hyenas are the ever-hungry scavengers of the scorched savannas. Their homeland is the sweeping Barrens and the hot Thousand Needles, where they belong to the wild beasts bestiary as predators of the dry plains.
The hyena is a fast, aggressive pet with high damage — the ideal companion for a hunter who loves quick fights.
What hyenas are
Hyenas are wiry four-legged scavenger predators with powerful jaws that can crush bone. They hunt and feed in packs, surrounding prey to cut off escape, and often finish off what other predators leave behind.
In the Barrens the hyena is a symbol of the wild savanna alongside zhevras and lions. Young ones are weak alone, but a pack of hyenas can bring down far larger beasts.

Hyenas love the dry open spaces of Kalimdor and appear mostly in Horde lands.

The hyena as a hunter pet
The hyena belongs to a pet family with fast attack speed and high damage. It has no unique active ability like Thunderstomp or Poison, but it hits often and hard, making it a good pure-DPS pet while leveling.
The hyena's toughness is medium — it soaks less than a boar but noticeably more than birds. That balance makes it a versatile solo pet: it deals damage and holds threat. For cooks, hyena and other savanna game meat becomes early buff food.
