Humans are the youngest, yet most numerous and ambitious people of the Alliance. They became the core around which the dwarves, night elves and gnomes rallied.
The human starting zone is Elwynn Forest, a pastoral region south of the capital Stormwind.
The Legacy of Arathor
Legend says humans descended from the vrykul, but their true history begins with the empire of Arathor. The scattered tribes were united by the hero Thoradin, who founded a state with the capital Strom. Arathor endured troll onslaughts thanks to an alliance with the elves and magic. Over time the empire fractured into seven kingdoms — Stormwind, Lordaeron, Dalaran, Gilneas, Alterac, Kul Tiras and Stromgarde.
Stormwind and Lordaeron
The two greatest kingdoms of the age were southern Stormwind and northern Lordaeron. Stormwind was the first victim of the First War: the orcs burned the city and King Llane fell. The survivors fled north, where Lordaeron led a new Alliance and defeated the Horde in the Second War.

The Fall of Lordaeron
Humanity's greatest tragedy is the Third War and the Fall of Lordaeron. Prince Arthas betrayed his people, turning Lordaeron into a Scourge stronghold. From the ruins rose the Forsaken. After that Stormwind, under Bolvar Fordragon and champions like Tirion Fordring, became the heart of the Alliance — though Lady Prestor already schemes within its palace.
