Arathi Highlands is a wind-swept plateau in the heart of the Eastern Kingdoms, where the ancient human Empire of Arathor once stood. Today it is contested territory fought over by the Alliance and the Horde. The ruined fortress of Stromgarde Keep dominates the western part of the zone, now split between three hostile factions: the Syndicate, Boulderfist Ogres, and the remnants of Stromgarde's human defenders. The zone is an excellent leveling ground for characters in the 25–35 range, and on the x5 server its dense quest hubs and elevated XP rates make it particularly efficient. Arathi Highlands also houses the entrance to Arathi Basin, one of Vanilla WoW's most beloved battlegrounds.

Quests and Quest Hubs
Refuge Pointe (Alliance) — an Alliance military camp in the northern part of the zone. Quests here target the Syndicate, ogres, and send you into Stromgarde Keep for the faction's reclamation chain.
Hammerfall (Horde) — a fortified Horde outpost in the center of the zone. Quests task you with fighting the Syndicate, Witherbark Trolls, and clearing ogre camps in the west.
Stromgarde Keep — the zone's most quest-dense area. The ruins are divided among three factions, and both Alliance and Horde players have separate quest lines inside the keep walls.
Go'Shek Farm — an abandoned farm overrun by the Syndicate. Quests here involve killing Syndicate leaders and recovering stolen documents.
Notable chains:
- Reclaiming Stromgarde (Alliance) — a multi-step series aimed at retaking the fortress from hostile factions.
- The Hammer May Fall (Horde) — a parallel series targeting Stromgarde's defenders.
- Troll Necklace Bounty — a repeatable quest rewarding good XP, especially valuable on x5 during downtime between chains.
Tips for WoW x5
On x5, you can clear all of Arathi Highlands' quests from both faction hubs in 4–6 hours. Warriors and Rogues will find this zone particularly efficient — mobs are densely packed and quest objectives cluster together. See the Warrior class page for leveling tips.
Arathi Basin runs on standard Vanilla ruleset on x5. If you are farming PvP gear — rings or cloaks — the BG entrance is worth visiting alongside your questing. Alliance entrance is in the north, Horde in the center.
Elite mobs inside Stromgarde Keep require a group even on x5. Do not attempt elites in the 30–33 range solo — their damage output is tuned for two or more players.
From Arathi Highlands, head south into Stranglethorn Vale (levels 30–45) or return west to Hillsbrad for any remaining quests you may have skipped.
