How to Reach Hammerfall in WoW 1.12.1 (Arathi Highlands)

How to get to Hammerfall is a question every Horde character faces around level 30, once Hillsbrad Foothills is done. Hammerfall is an orc stronghold in the northeastern Arathi Highlands and the main Horde base of this level 30–40 zone. Here is the route for both factions on the WoW x5 server (Vanilla 1.12.1).

Where Hammerfall is located

The stronghold stands in the northeastern part of the Arathi Highlands on the Eastern Kingdoms continent, right at the foot of the mountains. The recommended zone level is 30–40. After the Second War this was one of the largest internment camps for captured orcs. The Horde led by Orgrim Doomhammer and Thrall destroyed it, and Orgrim himself fell during the liberation — the outpost is named in his honor. Today orcs live in the old wooden houses behind the palisade, and the Defilers, a Forsaken unit, have settled next to them.

Landmarks around it: west along the road lies the center of the zone with the Alliance camp of Refuge Pointe, to the south Witherbark Village with hostile trolls, and to the southwest the ogres of Boulderfist Hall and the ruins of Stromgarde Keep.

How to get to Hammerfall as Horde

For the Horde the road runs from the west, through Hillsbrad Foothills. Walk it at least once to discover the flight path.

  1. From Orgrimmar take the zeppelin to Tirisfal Glades and enter Undercity — details in how to get to Undercity.
  2. From Undercity head south through Silverpine Forest into Hillsbrad Foothills — the route is described in how to get to Silverpine Forest.
  3. Reach Tarren Mill and discover its flight path — see how to get to Tarren Mill.
  4. From Tarren Mill move east, cross the river and get onto the main road. Follow it through Thoradin's Wall, the border of the Arathi Highlands.
  5. Keep going east along the road. In the middle of the zone it passes not far from Refuge Pointe, so stay away from the Alliance guards.
  6. At the signpost turn north and walk to the stronghold gates. Talk to Wind Rider Master Urda to discover the flight path.

How to reach Hammerfall as Alliance

The Alliance only needs the stronghold for world PvP raids. The nearest friendly base is Refuge Pointe in the center of the zone, described in how to get to Refuge Pointe. From there it is a walk east and northeast along the road to Hammerfall.

  • The gates are protected by Hammerfall guardians and elite Defiler fighters.
  • On a PvP realm an attack on the stronghold is usually answered with a counter-raid on Refuge Pointe.
  • Travel in a group and keep an escape route to your own flight path.

What Hammerfall offers

  • Flight path — wind riders fly to Undercity, Tarren Mill, Revantusk Village in the Hinterlands and Kargath in the Badlands.
  • Inn — Innkeeper Adegwa binds your hearthstone; a mailbox stands nearby.
  • Quest givers — the orc Drum Fel completes The Hammer May Fall chain, which starts in Tarren Mill and sends you after Boulderfist ogres and Witherbark trolls.
  • Field hospital — the Forsaken surgeon Doctor Gregory Victor runs the Horde Triage test for First Aid, which lets you train First Aid beyond 225, and teaches Heavy Runecloth Bandage.
  • Arathi Basin entrance — the Defilers' gate stands right behind the stronghold.
