How to Reach Kargath in WoW Classic
How to get to Kargath is one of the hardest navigation questions for the Horde in 1.12.1. Kargath is a Horde fort in the Badlands, and both land entrances to the zone lead either through Alliance territory or through dangerous high level zones. Its flight path, however, links the north and south of the Eastern Kingdoms, so it is worth unlocking as early as possible. Leveling on the WoW x5 server is fast, so you will be here by level 35–40, and both routes are laid out below step by step.

◆Where Kargath Is
Kargath stands in the northwestern Badlands, a scorched red wasteland in southeastern Khaz Modan. The Badlands border Loch Modan to the north and Searing Gorge to the west, and those are the only land entrances. The fort is pressed against the cliffs on the western edge of the zone: wooden watchtowers, huts and a palisade among red hills. Zone quests are aimed at roughly levels 35–45. Read more about the zone in the Badlands article.

How to Get There as Horde
If you already have Stonard or Hammerfall, just fly to Kargath and the wind rider will take you there safely. Otherwise there are two overland routes.
Northern route (main):
- From the Undercity head south through Silverpine Forest and pick up the flight path at The Sepulcher.
- Turn east into Hillsbrad Foothills and pick up the flight path at Tarren Mill.
- Follow the road east to Hammerfall in the Arathi Highlands; the route is in the guide how to get to Hammerfall.
- Head southwest to Thandol Span and cross into the Wetlands. There is no Horde flight path here, so follow the road south to Dun Algaz.
- Dun Algaz is a chain of tunnels into Loch Modan with dwarven guards at the exit. Slip past them and get off the road. This leg is covered in the guide how to get to Loch Modan.
- In Loch Modan skirt around Thelsamar and go south to the southern tip of the lake; a gap in the mountains leads into the Badlands.
- In the Badlands hug the mountains along the edge of the map: first south, then west, and you will come out right at Kargath. Pick up the flight path.
Southern route (for higher levels): from Grom'gol Base Camp take the road north through Duskwood and Redridge into the Burning Steppes, then through Blackrock Mountain into Searing Gorge. The road from the mountain runs northeast; past a dwarven dig site turn east, and a pass through the cliffs leads into the western Badlands near Kargath. Crossing the mountain is described in the guide how to get to Blackrock Mountain.

How to Get There as Alliance
For the Alliance Kargath is a hostile fort with guards, worth visiting only for world PvP; see the tactics in the world PvP guide. Alliance characters have a short trip to the Badlands: from Ironforge through Loch Modan and Thelsamar south to the gap by the southern edge of the lake. The nearest Alliance flight path is Thelsamar.
◆What Kargath Offers
- Flight path — the wind rider master Gorrik. From Kargath you can fly to the Undercity, Hammerfall, Stonard, Grom'gol Base Camp, Booty Bay, Thorium Point and Flame Crest.
- Inn — Innkeeper Shul'kar.
- Zone quests — the troll Jarkal Mossmeld hands out reagent quests for the Badlands and Uldaman.
- Kargath Expeditionary Force — the officers of the expedition stand here and send high level players into Blackrock Depths.
- Services — vendors, a stable master and a mailbox.
Routes to Kargath: Summary Table
| Route | What matters |
|---|---|
| Undercity to Hammerfall | Horde flight paths, the safe part of the trip |
| Thandol Span and the Wetlands | No Horde flight path, road south to Dun Algaz |
| Dun Algaz to Loch Modan | Alliance guards at the tunnel exit, avoid Thelsamar |
| Searing Gorge | Southern route through Blackrock Mountain, level 45+ monsters |
| Kargath | Flight path, inn, Badlands quests |
The road is long, so hunters will want Aspect of the Cheetah and shamans Ghost Wolf. Set your hearthstone in Kargath right after you arrive: if you die in the Badlands, getting back is much easier. The flight network is mapped in the flight paths guide.
◆What to Do Nearby
Kargath is the base for leveling in the Badlands, and the quest order is collected in the Badlands leveling guide. In a canyon in the north of the zone lies the entrance to the Uldaman dungeon; the route is in the guide how to get to Uldaman. To the west is Searing Gorge, and beyond it Blackrock Mountain with Blackrock Depths. If your goal is the Swamp of Sorrows, fly on to the neighbouring hub described in the guide how to get to Stonard. General road tips are in the article travelling across Azeroth.

FAQ
?Where is Kargath?
Kargath is a Horde fort in the northwestern Badlands, at the foot of the cliffs on the border with Searing Gorge. It is the only Horde base in Khaz Modan.
?How does the Horde reach Kargath for the first time?
The classic route runs from the Undercity through Silverpine Forest, Hillsbrad Foothills and the Arathi Highlands to Hammerfall, then over Thandol Span into the Wetlands, through the Dun Algaz tunnels into Loch Modan and south into the Badlands. From there follow the mountains southwest to Kargath.
?Why is the Kargath flight path so important?
Kargath links the northern Horde flight paths of the Eastern Kingdoms, the Undercity and Hammerfall, with the southern ones: Stonard, Grom'gol Base Camp and Booty Bay. Without it you cannot fly between the north and south of the continent.
?Can I reach Kargath from the south?
Yes, but the road is longer and more dangerous: from Grom'gol Base Camp through Duskwood and Redridge into the Burning Steppes, then through Blackrock Mountain into Searing Gorge and over a mountain pass on the eastern side of the gorge into the Badlands. The zones on the way are meant for level 45 and above.
