How to Reach Blackrock Mountain as Alliance and Horde
How to get to Blackrock Mountain is a question every player asks after level 50: one volcano hides five instances at once, from five-man dungeons to 40-man raids. On the WoW x5 server your character reaches Blackrock Mountain fast, so it pays to learn the road and the layout of the mountain early. This page is an overview of the whole hub; detailed runs to each dungeon live in separate guides.

◆Where Blackrock Mountain is
Blackrock Mountain is a volcano in southern Khaz Modan, in the Eastern Kingdoms. It sits exactly between two zones: Searing Gorge to the north and Burning Steppes to the south, and links them with a through passage. The mountain itself is neutral ground with no faction guards, so on a PvP realm the entrances often turn into battlefields.
The instances cover levels from 50+ up to 60. Lore and the full instance table are in the wiki article Blackrock Mountain.

How to get there as Alliance
Alliance has two convenient approaches — from the south through Burning Steppes and from the north through Searing Gorge.
- Fly to Lakeshire in Redridge Mountains and follow the road north into the hills — the trail leads into Burning Steppes.
- Unlock the flight path at Morgan's Vigil in the south-east of the Steppes.
- Travel west across the whole zone to the foot of the volcano — the southern entrance is in the north-western part of Burning Steppes.
- If you have already unlocked Thorium Point in Searing Gorge, fly there instead: it is the closest point to the northern entrance.
Both legs are covered step by step in how to get to Burning Steppes and how to get to Searing Gorge.
How to get there as Horde
Horde is better off approaching from the north, through the Badlands and Searing Gorge.
- Fly to Kargath in the Badlands.
- From Kargath head south along the western edge of the zone — a narrow trail leads into Searing Gorge.
- In the gorge unlock the flight path at Thorium Point: there are flight masters for both factions.
- Go down south into The Cauldron and walk to the northern entrance of the mountain.
- To approach from the south next time, cross the mountain and unlock Flame Crest in Burning Steppes.
A map of every flight path for both factions is in the flight paths guide.
Where each instance entrance is
Once inside, you stand in a huge cavern above a lake of lava. A wide stone bridge spans it and giant chains hang down into the depths — that is your main landmark.

- Blackrock Depths — at the very bottom. Climb down the chains to the quarry by the lava: the dungeon portal is there. Route details: how to get to Blackrock Depths.
- Molten Core — the physical raid portal is inside Blackrock Depths. However, at the bottom of the mountain, next to the Depths entrance, stands Lothos Riftwaker. Complete his quest Attunement to the Core by bringing a Core Fragment from the raid portal, and from then on he will teleport you straight into the raid. More in how to get to Molten Core.
- Lower Blackrock Spire — up top, across the bridges and walkways to the Spire. See how to get to Blackrock Spire.
- Upper Blackrock Spire — a door inside the lower part that requires the Seal of Ascension.
- Blackwing Lair — beyond Upper Blackrock Spire. The quick way in is the Orb of Command down the hall to the right of the Spire entrance. Only players who completed Blackhand's Command can use it. Details: how to get to Blackwing Lair.
The quest starts from a letter carried by the Scarshield Quartermaster near the Spire entrance:
◆Table: what is where in Blackrock Mountain
| Point | What is there |
|---|---|
| Northern entrance | From Searing Gorge, through The Cauldron |
| Southern entrance | From Burning Steppes |
| Mountain floor, quarry | Blackrock Depths portal, Lothos Riftwaker |
| Inside the Depths | Physical Molten Core portal |
| Upper levels | Lower Blackrock Spire entrance |
| Hall by the Spire entrance | Orb of Command — quick entry to Blackwing Lair |
| Thorium Point | Closest flight path for both factions |

◆Why go to Blackrock Mountain
Blackrock Mountain covers almost the entire path from level 52 to your second raid set. The Depths are great for leveling and for Thorium Brotherhood reputation, the Spire is where you gear up before raiding, and Molten Core and Blackwing Lair give your first epic tier sets. Until the mountain is fully open to you, level in the neighbouring zones with the Searing Gorge leveling guide and the Burning Steppes leveling guide.
Set your Hearthstone at an inn close to the mountain or keep both nearby flight paths unlocked — then forming a group takes minutes instead of half an hour of running.
