How to Get to Blackwing Lair
Blackwing Lair (BWL) is a 40-player level 60 raid, the lair of Nefarian at the very top of Blackrock Mountain. Finding the entrance is harder than it looks: it is hidden at the summit and only opens with the attunement. Here is the route and the requirements.

Where the entrance is
BWL sits at the very top of Blackrock Mountain, above the entrance to Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS). To get inside you must climb to the summit and activate the Orb of Command.
Attunement: Blackhand's Command
The orb only works for a character with the Blackhand's Command buff. It comes from a quest tied to the last UBRS boss, General Drakkisath:
- Clear UBRS and kill General Drakkisath.
- Pick up and turn in the Blackhand's Command quest.
- The Orb of Command at the BWL entrance is now active.
For the full chain and tips see the Blackwing Lair attunement guide.
◆How to reach the summit of Blackrock Mountain
- Enter Blackrock Mountain from Burning Steppes (east entrance) or Searing Gorge (west).
- Inside, climb the chains and bridges upward toward the UBRS entrance area.
- At the very top find the Orb of Command — with the attunement it teleports the raid into Blackwing Lair.
Blackrock Mountain is a shared complex for several instances, so mind the levels. Below lies Blackrock Depths; above are the Spires and BWL.
◆Next steps
Boss tactics (Vaelastrasz, Broodlord Lashlayer, Chromaggus, Nefarian) and loot are on the Blackwing Lair raid page.
Before your first BWL run, take the raid through UBRS: everyone who wants to use the Orb of Command needs the Blackhand's Command attunement. Arrange a couple of UBRS runs ahead of time so the whole roster is attuned — otherwise part of the raid gets stuck at the entrance.
