Blackwing Lair (BWL) Access: Attunement Guide

Section: Raids & bosses 2 min read Vanilla 1.12.1 · x5 Updated 13.10.2026

Blackwing Lair is Vanilla's second 40-player raid — Nefarian's lair atop Blackrock Mountain. The fast way in is the Orb of Command, and to use it you need the "Blackhand's Command" quest. On WoW x5 attunement is done in a single UBRS run.

How BWL access works

The lair itself is at the top of Blackrock Spire, but the Orb of Command is not there: it stands in the corridor by the Blackrock Spire entrance, outside the instance. Touching the orb teleports you into the raid, but only after the "Blackhand's Command" quest, which "binds" you to the orb.

Примечание

The orb only teleports a player who completed the quest personally, so every raider needs the attunement.

Step-by-step chain

Get the Blackhand's Command letter — it drops from the Scarshield Quartermaster in the corridor by the Blackrock Spire entrance and starts the *Blackhand's Command* quest.
Enter Upper Blackrock Spire (UBRS) with a group of 10 — see the UBRS guide.
Kill General Drakkisath and touch Drakkisath's Brand — the quest is complete.
Return to the Orb of Command in the corridor by the Spire entrance and touch it — it teleports you into Blackwing Lair.
You're in BWL, ready for Razorgore.

x5 server tips

Attunement pairs with UBRS farming and the Onyxia chain — both use Blackrock Mountain.
You need a Seal of Ascension (UBRS key) on at least one group member, or the Spire entrance stays locked.
After attunement, study the fight: the Blackwing Lair guide and boss pages in the raids section.

FAQ

Is attunement required to enter BWL?

Yes. Blackwing Lair sits atop Blackrock Spire. The Orb of Command in the corridor by the Spire entrance, outside the instance, teleports you into the raid only after the Blackhand's Command quest.

Does every raider need the attunement?

Yes. The Orb of Command only teleports a player who completed Blackhand's Command personally, so every raider should do the quest.

Where do I get the Blackhand's Command quest?

The quest starts from the Blackhand's Command letter dropped by the Scarshield Quartermaster by the Blackrock Spire entrance, outside the instance. To complete it, kill General Drakkisath in UBRS and touch his brand; after that the Orb of Command by the Spire entrance teleports you into BWL.
