How to Get to Molten Core
Molten Core is WoW Classic's first 40-player raid and the lair of Ragnaros. The hard part for a newcomer is not the bosses but the route: the entrance hides deep inside Blackrock Mountain, behind Blackrock Depths (BRD). Here is the path and the attunement.
Contents
Where the entrance is
The raid portal sits at the Molten Bridge deep inside Blackrock Depths. The NPC Lothos Riftwaker is not at the bridge: he stands on the floor of Blackrock Mountain by the Blackrock Depths entrance, outside the instance, and gives the attunement and teleports you to the portal.
How to get there the first time
- Reach Blackrock Mountain — it lies between the Burning Steppes and the Searing Gorge, with an entrance into the mountain from either zone.
- Enter Blackrock Depths (BRD), the large dungeon inside the mountain.
- Run through BRD to the Molten Bridge (past the Bar and deeper) to the raid portal.
- Step into the raid portal.
Attunement and fast entry
Take the attunement quest from Lothos Riftwaker (mountain floor, by the BRD entrance). Once it is done, Lothos teleports you straight to the raid portal, skipping the run through the dungeon. This is the standard way to enter each week. Details — in the Molten Core attunement guide.
◆What is inside
- Ten bosses: Lucifron, Magmadar, Gehennas, Garr, Baron Geddon, Shazzrah, Sulfuron Harbinger, Golemagg, Majordomo Executus — and of course Ragnaros at the end.
- A source of Tier 1 sets and the first legendary materials; on x5 the path to a raid set is much shorter.
For a full boss and tactics breakdown see the Molten Core raid guide and the raid overview. Zone overviews around the mountain — Burning Steppes and Searing Gorge.
Do not try to force your way into the Core through BRD every time — the most reliable route for a 40-player raid is the attunement and the Lothos Riftwaker teleport at the BRD entrance. Do the quest once and you can assemble in a minute afterward.
