Scholomance is a level 55-60 dungeon, the Scourge's school of necromancy on the isle of Caer Darrow. Many players ask not about the bosses but about the entrance: an island in the middle of a lake and the old story with the key. Here is how to get there and whether you need a key.

Where Scholomance is

The dungeon sits on the isle of Caer Darrow in the middle of Darrowmere Lake, in the southeast of Western Plaguelands. The island holds ruins of a village full of ghosts; the instance entrance is a crypt door.

How to reach Western Plaguelands

Horde:

  1. From Undercity/Tirisfal head east through The Bulwark into Western Plaguelands.
  2. In 1.12.1 the Horde has no flight point in Western Plaguelands: the nearest one is Undercity, then walk through The Bulwark.

Alliance:

  1. Open the Chillwind Camp flight path — a neutral/Alliance-friendly hub in Western Plaguelands.
  2. From there head southeast toward Darrowmere Lake.

From either hub, make for Darrowmere Lake in the southeast and cross to the isle of Caer Darrow.

Do you need the key

The entrance used to require the Skeleton Key (crafted through a quest chain). In patch 1.12.1 the key requirement was removed — the door opens right away. The key quest remains for the lore, but it is not required to enter. If you want to do the chain for the story, see the dungeon keys guide.

What is inside

  • Bosses: Rattlegore, Ras Frostwhisper, Darkmaster Gandling and others.
  • Many quests for valuable 55-60 loot; on x5 a group forms quickly.

For a full boss and tactics breakdown see the Scholomance dungeon page. Zone overview: Western Plaguelands knowledge base.

Совет

There is a summoning stone at the entrance on Caer Darrow: once one player reaches the door, a warlock or an assembled group can summon the rest straight to the crypt instead of making everyone cross the lake. On x5 this saves a lot of time between runs.
