How to Get to Sentinel Hill in WoW 1.12.1
How to get to Sentinel Hill is the first question every Alliance player asks after outgrowing Elwynn Forest. Sentinel Hill is the headquarters of the People's Militia and the hub of every Westfall quest, and it is also where the famous chain against the Defias Brotherhood begins. On the WoW x5 server with boosted experience you will arrive here around level 10–12, so let us go through the route step by step.

◆Where Sentinel Hill Is
The town sits in the middle of the eastern half of Westfall, a flat zone of farm fields west of Elwynn Forest. Your landmark is the tall stone Sentinel Tower on top of the hill, visible from far away along the main road. Saldean's Farm lies to the north, and the ruined town of Moonbrook with the Deadmines entrance lies to the south. A zone overview is on the Westfall wiki page.
The recommended zone level is 10–20. The town itself is safe: militia guards protect it.

How to Get There as Alliance
On foot from Stormwind and Goldshire
- Leave Stormwind through the main gate and follow the road south to Goldshire. Finding the village itself is covered in the guide how to get to Goldshire.
- In Goldshire take the road heading west through Elwynn Forest.
- The road passes Westbrook Garrison and crosses a bridge over the river into Westfall.
- Keep following the road southwest: Saldean's Farm stays on your left, and soon you will see a hill with a tower ahead. That is your destination.
The walk from Goldshire takes only a few minutes. For an overview of all roads into the zone see how to get to Westfall.
For dwarves, gnomes and night elves
First reach the human capital, as described in how to get to Stormwind: from Ironforge the Deeprun Tram takes you there. From that point the route is the same as for humans.
By air
The Sentinel Hill flight path only opens after your first visit. Walk there, speak to the gryphon master Thor, and next time you can fly in from Stormwind. The whole network is explained in the flight paths guide.
How to Get There as Horde
For the Horde, Sentinel Hill is an enemy base you visit only for raids on a PvP realm.
- Reach Grom'gol Base Camp in Stranglethorn Vale, see how to get to Grom'gol.
- Travel north into Duskwood.
- Take the western road of Duskwood: it leads into the southeast of Westfall.
- Head north past the farms towards the hill with the tower.
Keep in mind that militia guards hit hard and Alliance players will quickly fly in to defend. Raid tactics are covered in the world PvP guide.
◆What You Will Find at Sentinel Hill
The town is small but has everything you need while leveling: a flight path, an inn run by Innkeeper Heather, a mailbox, a forge with an anvil, and vendors selling food, weapons and trade goods. In the Sentinel Tower on top of the hill you will find the leader of the People's Militia, Gryan Stoutmantle, who hands out the main quests of the zone.
Summary Table
| Spot | What is there |
|---|---|
| Sentinel Tower | Gryan Stoutmantle, People's Militia quests |
| Flight path | Gryphon master Thor |
| Inn | Innkeeper Heather, hearthstone binding |
| Route from Stormwind | South to Goldshire, then west across the bridge at Westbrook Garrison |
| Horde route | Grom'gol, then north through Duskwood and west |
Bind your hearthstone at Sentinel Hill: from here it is equally easy to reach the farms in the north of the zone and Moonbrook in the south.
◆What to Do Around Sentinel Hill
The main reason to come here is the Defias Brotherhood quest chain. Gryan Stoutmantle sends you to Lakeshire, then to Stormwind, and finally into the Deadmines dungeon for the head of Edwin VanCleef. To find the mine entrance under Moonbrook, read how to get to the Deadmines. One of the final rewards of the chain is a rare staff.
Around the town there are also plenty of quests against gnolls, harvest golems and Defias thugs on the abandoned farms.

The full quest order is in the Westfall leveling guide.
