Westfall
Westfall is the former breadbasket of Stormwind west of Elwynn Forest, a zone for levels 10–20. The farmers have abandoned their fields, the Defias Brotherhood and their harvest golems run the farms, murlocs roam the coast, and the Deadmines dungeon lies hidden beneath the ruins of Moonbrook. Below is a reference for the zone on the WoW x5 server running Vanilla 1.12.1.

About the zone
Westfall once fed the whole kingdom. Now Stormwind has forgotten its farmers: the fields belong to the Defias Brotherhood, former stonemasons who were cheated after rebuilding the capital. The bandits drive families off their land and their harvest golems roam the abandoned fields. The remaining settlers have formed the People's Militia under Gryan Stoutmantle on Sentinel Hill. Besides the Defias, the zone is home to Riverpaw gnolls, kobolds, Goretusks, coyotes and Fleshripper vultures. More about the bandits in the Defias Brotherhood article.
Key locations
- Sentinel Hill — the stone tower and People's Militia camp in the middle of the zone. Flight path (gryphon master Thor), inn and Quartermaster Lewis.
- Moonbrook — a ruined town in the south, the Defias stronghold and the Deadmines entrance.
- Saldean's Farm — one of the last inhabited farms, just past the fork in the northern road.
- Furlbrow's Pumpkin Farm — an abandoned farm in the north of the zone, from which the bandits drove out the Furlbrows.
- The Molsen Farm, Alexston Farmstead, The Jansen Stead — farms overrun by bandits and golems.
- Gold Coast Quarry — a quarry on the western coast worked by the Defias.
- Jangolode Mine — a mine in the north of the zone.
- The Dagger Hills — hills in the south, a hideout for Defias highwaymen and pathstalkers.
- The Dust Plains and The Dead Acre — the southeast and east of the zone.
- Longshore — the whole western coast with murloc villages and shipwrecks.
- Westfall Lighthouse — the lighthouse on the southwestern cape, where the ghost of Captain Grayson stands.
Quests
- First steps: Furlbrow's Deed, The Forgotten Heirloom and Poor Old Blanchy for the Furlbrows; Westfall Stew and Goretusk Liver Pie for Salma Saldean; The Killing Fields — 20 Harvest Watchers for Farmer Saldean.
- The People's Militia: three quests from Gryan Stoutmantle — Defias Trappers and Smugglers, then Pillagers and Looters at Gold Coast Quarry, Moonbrook and Alexston Farmstead, and finally Highwaymen, Pathstalkers and Knuckledusters in the Dagger Hills.
- Militia side quests: Patrolling Westfall (8 Gnoll Paws for Captain Danuvin), Red Leather Bandanas and Red Silk Bandanas for the scouts.
- The Defias Brotherhood: the main chain of the zone. Gryan Stoutmantle sends you to an informant in the Lakeshire inn in Redridge Mountains, then to Mathias Shaw in Stormwind. You intercept the Defias Messenger on the roads between Moonbrook, Gold Coast Quarry and Jangolode Mine, escort the Defias Traitor to the secret hideout in Moonbrook and finally kill Edwin VanCleef in the Deadmines.
- Captain Sander's Hidden Treasure — a treasure hunt along the coast, open to both factions.
For the order see the Westfall leveling guide; the chain is covered in the Defias Brotherhood quest guide.
◆Murlocs of Westfall
Murlocs hold the whole western coast — Longshore from the north down to the lighthouse cape. The further south you go, the stronger they get:
- Murloc Raider (11–12) and Murloc Coastrunner (12–13) — the northern shore;
- Murloc Minor Oracle (13–14) and Murloc Netter (14–15);
- Murloc Warrior (15–16), Murloc Hunter (16–17) and Murloc Oracle (17–18);
- Murloc Tidehunter (18–19) — the southern villages by the lighthouse.
The zone's chief murloc is Old Murk-Eye, level 20. The story goes that he twice led murlocs against the lighthouse and killed the keeper's family. The murloc quests come from the ghost of Captain Grayson at the lighthouse: The Coast Isn't Clear — 7 each of Tidehunters, Warriors, Oracles and Coastrunners — and The Coastal Menace — a scale of Old Murk-Eye. Both are open to the Horde as well. Murloc Eyes are also needed for Westfall Stew.

◆The Deadmines dungeon
The entrance to The Deadmines is in Moonbrook: a building in the middle of town hides the way down into the mine. Inside are the Defias headquarters, a goblin shipyard and Edwin VanCleef's ship. The dungeon is meant for a group of roughly levels 17–26. The route to the entrance is in how to get to the Deadmines, tactics in the Deadmines guide.
Resources and professions
- Herbalism: Peacebloom, Silverleaf, Earthroot, Mageroyal and Briarthorn.
- Mining: copper and tin veins in the hills.
- Skinning: Goretusks and coyotes give light leather.
- Cooking: Westfall Stew and Goretusk Liver Pie give recipes and useful rewards.
Tips for x5
- Grab the Sentinel Hill flight path as soon as you arrive: the Defias chain sends you to Redridge and Stormwind.
- Defias bandanas drop a lot — collect them as you go rather than farming them separately.
- Pull the southern murlocs one at a time: oracles heal and tidehunters come in groups.
- At x5 you will finish the zone by level 18–20 — form a group for the Deadmines and turn in the end of the chain.
