◆Who are the gnolls

Gnolls are bipedal beings with hyena traits: a sloped back, clawed paws, an elongated muzzle and an eerie laugh. They are cunning but not wise: their culture rests on brute force, raids and plunder.

Gnolls roam in packs under bully leaders. They build no cities, preferring hide camps by roads, bridges and abandoned farms from which it is easy to strike at weaker travelers.

Gnolls are split into many tribes, each with its own territory:

The Riverpaw tribe is an especially persistent nuisance: its raids in Westfall are part of the story of the collapse of the farmsteads and the rise of the Defias.

◆Where to find gnolls in WoW Classic

Gnolls are among the most common low-level foes in Alliance lands:

• Elwynn Forest — Riverpaw camps by the Goldshire roads and bridges.
• Westfall — marauders on the ruined farms.
• Redridge Mountains and Loch Modan — mountain packs.
• Hillsbrad Foothills — contested lands in the north.

They give early experience and materials, and quests to cull them are a classic of the 1–20 leveling.

For newcomers gnolls are the perfect "combat school": dangerous enough to teach caution around packs, yet manageable one-on-one. Their cackle and raids set the tone for adventures in the starting zones.
