A ghoul is dangerous not for its strength but for its numbers and speed. While a hero cuts down one, a dozen more are already rushing at the scent of living blood.
Who are the ghouls
A ghoul is an animated corpse with hooked claws, torn skin and endless hunger. The necromancers of the Scourge raise them from the bodies of fallen warriors and peasants. Almost no mind remains in a ghoul — only animal fury and a craving for flesh.
In battle ghouls rely on claws and teeth. By devouring corpses they restore their strength right on the battlefield — which is why the Scourge loves to send them in waves: fallen defenders instantly become both food and reinforcements.
Role in the undead army
Ghouls are the foundation of the Scourge. They are raised en masse and sent in first to wear down the enemy before the heavy undead strike — the abominations and liches. Cheap, fast, endless.
This tactic makes ghouls kin to the imps and felhounds of the Burning Legion: in both cases expendable infantry is meant to bury the foe in numbers while the elite prepares the decisive blow.
