Goblin Jumper Cables: Regular and XL Versions Explained
Goblin Jumper Cables are an engineering trinket that gives you a chance to bring a fallen ally back without a priest, shaman or paladin. In WoW 1.12.1 there is also an upgraded model — Goblin Jumper Cables XL — with a higher success rate. Below is everything about crafting, schematics and using both devices on the WoW x5 server.

◆What the cables do
Both items are trinkets with the same Defibrillate effect: the engineer walks up to a dead player's corpse and channels the cables for 4 seconds. If the shock works, your ally gets a prompt to resurrect on the spot instead of running back from the graveyard. If it fails, the device simply goes on cooldown.
Key restrictions confirmed by the tooltip and the effect description:
- usable out of combat only — in the middle of a fight the cables are useless;
- range is 5 yards to the corpse, cast time is 4 seconds;
- they revive players only; NPCs cannot be brought back;
- anyone with Engineering 165 (265 for XL) can use them; no specialization is required to use them;
- the regular cables do not bind, so after a failed attempt you can pass them to another engineer with enough skill.
Since patch 1.5 both devices share a 30 minute cooldown. The XL version has a noticeably higher success rate (about 50% according to Wowpedia), while the regular model is less reliable, so switching to XL at high level makes sense. In early patches a failed attempt could break the cables, but since 1.5 the device no longer breaks on failure.
◆How to make Goblin Jumper Cables
The regular model is open to every engineer, no specialization needed:
- Level Engineering to 165 — the route is in our engineering guide.
- Buy Schematic: Goblin Jumper Cables for 20 silver. It is sold by goblin vendors Kzixx (by the road in eastern Duskwood), Zixil (on the path between Tarren Mill and Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills) and Veenix (a Venture Co. merchant in Stonetalon Mountains). Stock is limited — one copy until the vendor restocks.
- Gather the materials from the table below and craft the item.
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Iron Bar | 6 |
| Whirring Bronze Gizmo | 2 |
| Flask of Oil | 2 |
| Silk Cloth | 2 |
| Shadowgem | 2 |
| Fused Wiring | 1 |
Kzixx is easy to visit while questing in Duskwood, and Zixil on your way through Hillsbrad Foothills.

◆Goblin Jumper Cables XL
The upgraded version requires 265 skill and the Goblin Engineer specialization — this is stated directly on the schematic tooltip. The specialization is granted by Nixx Sprocketspring in Gadgetzan and Vazario Linkgrease in Ratchet; quest details are in our Goblin Engineering guide.
- Kill Plugger Spazzring, the bartender of the Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths; he drops Schematic: Goblin Jumper Cables XL. Fight tactics are on the Plugger Spazzring page.
- Learn the schematic as a Goblin Engineer with 265 skill.
- Craft the item from the materials below.
| Material | Amount |
|---|---|
| Thorium Widget | 2 |
| Truesilver Transformer | 2 |
| Fused Wiring | 2 |
| Ironweb Spider Silk | 2 |
| Star Ruby | 2 |

Use in dungeons, raids and the open world
Jumper cables do not replace a proper resurrection, but they save the day in several typical situations:
- Your only healer died. If the priest or shaman fell and the group cleared the room, the engineer tries the cables, and the healer then resurrects everyone else. What to do after a wipe is covered in our wipe recovery guide.
- A group without resurrection classes. A rogue, hunter or mage can drop combat and return to the corpses — the cables give them a chance to revive an ally.
- Open-world farming and long trips. Instead of a long run from the spirit healer you try a resurrection on the spot. General death rules are explained in death and resurrection.
Remember: after a failure you wait half an hour for another try, so for important players it is wiser to use class spells and keep the cables as a backup.
Tips
- Engineers without the goblin specialization cannot make XL — their main option remains the regular cables.
- Keep the cables in your bags and equip them in the trinket slot only to use them: they do nothing in combat.
- You can craft regular cables in advance for guildmate engineers — they do not bind when crafted.
- To compare them with other engineering utilities, check the engineering utility gadgets hub; the neighbouring article covers the Gnomish Mind Control Cap — another item with a 30 minute cooldown.

FAQ
?Do I need Goblin Engineering for Jumper Cables?
Not for the regular version: any engineer with 165 skill can learn it. The XL schematic requires 265 skill and the Goblin Engineer specialization.
?Can Jumper Cables be used in combat?
No. Both devices cannot be used in combat, and the cast takes 4 seconds within 5 yards of the corpse.
?Do regular and XL cables share a cooldown?
Yes, since patch 1.5 they share a 30 minute cooldown, so carrying both at once gives no benefit.
?Where do I get the XL schematic on WoW x5?
It drops from Plugger Spazzring, the bartender of the Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths. Only a Goblin Engineer with 265 skill can learn it.
