Death and Resurrection in WoW Classic
Vanilla WoW Classic 1.12 · x5 realm · wowx5.ruDeath happens often in WoW Classic, and understanding its mechanics saves you from needless penalties and wasted time. On WowX5 x5 the death rules are identical to original Vanilla 1.12.1.
What happens on death
1. Your character falls and the screen greys out. 2. You become a spirit at the nearest graveyard (a Spirit Healer angel appears). 3. You choose how to return to the world of the living.
Two ways to resurrect
Resurrect at your body (recommended)
- Run as a ghost to where you died (your corpse is marked on the minimap).
- Approach the body and click "Resurrect" — with no penalty.
- As a ghost you move faster and are invisible to mobs (except in special zones).
Resurrect at the Spirit Healer
- Accept resurrection right at the graveyard angel.
- Downside: resurrection sickness and -25% durability on all equipped gear.
- Only worth it if your body is in a dangerous spot or too far away.
If you died deep in a dungeon or by an enemy camp, it is often better to resurrect at your body after mobs disperse than to take the Spirit Healer penalty.
Resurrection Sickness
| Character level | Duration |
|---|---|
| 1-10 | No penalty |
| 11-19 | Short (about 1 minute) |
| 60 | Up to 10 minutes |
While sick, all attributes, damage, and armor are reduced by up to 75%. In this state it's best to rest, eat/drink, or wait it out rather than jump into combat.
Player resurrection
Classes with resurrection (priest, paladin, shaman, druid) can raise a fallen ally out of combat — with no resurrection sickness. Shaman also has a self-res (Reincarnation) usable in combat. This is a key reason to bring "res" classes on dungeon runs.
How to reduce deaths
- Watch your gear durability — "red" armor raises risk.
- Keep a stock of consumables: healing potions, bandages, food.
- Study combat mechanics so you don't overestimate yourself.

FAQ
What happens after death in WoW Classic?
Your character becomes a spirit at the nearest graveyard. You run back to your body and resurrect next to it — with no penalty. Alternatively you resurrect at the Spirit Healer on the graveyard, but with resurrection sickness and gear durability loss.
What is resurrection sickness?
It is the penalty for resurrecting at the Spirit Healer: a temporary reduction of all attributes and damage by up to 75%. Its duration scales with level (up to 10 minutes at level 60). Below level 10 there is no penalty.
Do you lose durability on death?
Normal death damages your gear's durability. Resurrecting at the Spirit Healer additionally removes 25% durability from all equipped items, so running to your corpse is usually better.
