The class trainer is the first NPC worth visiting by habit. They hand out new spell ranks, teach dual wield and heavy armour, and reset talents. Here is where to find one, what it gives and what it costs on WowX5 x5.

What a class trainer does

  • Grants spell ranks. New training lines appear every two levels. An old rank of Lightning Bolt or Fireball hits markedly weaker than the current one.
  • Teaches core proficiencies: dual wield (level 20), mail and plate (level 40), the rogue poisons skill, and the mount summoning spells for paladins and warlocks.
  • Resets talents. The first reset is 1 gold and rises from there; details in the respec guide.
  • Offers class quests. Those chains are covered in the class quests guide.

Where to look inside the capitals

Alliance:

  • Stormwind — warriors and rogues in Old Town, paladins and priests by the Cathedral, mages and warlocks in the Mage Quarter.
  • Ironforge — warriors and hunters in the Military Ward, paladins and priests in the Hall of Mysteries, mages in the Mystic Ward.
  • Darnassus — druids in the Cenarion Enclave, priests by the Temple of the Moon, hunters and rogues in the Craftsmen's Terrace.

Horde:

  • Orgrimmar — warriors, hunters and rogues in the Valley of Honor, shamans in the Valley of Spirits, warlocks and mages in the Cleft of Shadow area.
  • Undercity — warriors in the War Quarter, mages and warlocks in the Magic Quarter, rogues in the Rogues' Quarter.
  • Thunder Bluff — hunters on Hunter Rise, druids and shamans on Elder Rise and Spirit Rise.

What training costs

Rank prices scale with level: copper and silver in the early tens, several gold by level 40, up to 10-15 gold per line at 60. The full bill is broken down in the skill training costs guide, and reputation with your own capital grants up to a 20% discount.

You do not have to learn every rank. Heals and crowd control benefit from lower ranks to save mana — see the spell ranks and downranking reference. Your main damage spells, however, should always sit at max rank.

How often should I visit my class trainer

New spell ranks unlock every two levels, so a visit every 4-6 levels is convenient once several training lines have stacked up. On x5 rates levelling is fast, and a trainer forgotten for ten levels noticeably drags your damage and healing down.

Where are class trainers located

Trainers sit in every racial starting zone and in all capitals. The Alliance has Stormwind, Ironforge and Darnassus, the Horde has Orgrimmar, Undercity and Thunder Bluff. A capital gathers trainers for every class available to your faction.

Can I reset talents at a class trainer

Yes, the talent reset is handled by your own class trainer in a capital city. The first reset costs 1 gold, each following one is more expensive, and the price slowly decays back down over time.

What else is learned only from a class trainer

Dual wield at level 20, mail and plate armour at level 40, the rogue poisons skill and the class mount summoning spells all come from the class trainer. Extra weapon types come from a separate weapon master.
