Fun items in WoW Classic are things that do not make your character stronger — they change your appearance, launch fireworks or simply entertain the group. Patch 1.12.1 on the WoW x5 server has plenty of them: from a dish that turns you into a pirate to an orb that makes you look like a member of the enemy faction for five minutes.

What fun items are and why there is no Toy Box

In modern WoW these items go into a separate collections tab, but the Toy Box only arrived in patch 6.0. In 1.12.1 it does not exist: every item lives in your bags, takes a slot and can run out. There is no transmogrification either, so the only "cosmetic" equipment slots are the shirt and the tabard.

Fun items fall into a few groups:

Transformations change your character model for a while. Durations and sources are covered on the page transformation items in WoW Classic.
Potions with a surprise — the classic example is the Noggenfogger Elixir: skeleton, shrink or slow fall.
Engineering toys — fireworks, mechanical pets and combat gadgets. Pets are described in engineering pets, combat devices in engineering combat gadgets.
Holiday items — Winter Veil snowballs, Hallow's End wands and the fireworks of the Lunar Festival.
Cosmetic gear — tabards and shirts in WoW Classic.

How to get fun items: step by step

Cooking. Learn Recipe: Savory Deviate Delight — it is a rare drop from beasts in the Barrens. Fish for Deviate Fish in the oases near Wailing Caverns.
Gadgetzan. In Tanaris the goblin Marin Noggenfogger sells his elixir after you complete his quest.
World drop. The Orb of Deception is a rare level 54 trinket that players usually buy on the Auction House.
Holidays. During Hallow's End innkeepers hand out Treat Bags, and during the Feast of Winter Veil the Smokywood Pastures vendors sell snowballs.
Professions. Engineers build fireworks and the Discombobulator Ray, alchemists brew Elixir of Giant Growth, tailors sew shirts.

Combat toys such as the Gnomish Mind Control Cap or the Gnomish Shrink Ray look funny too, but they are gear for specialist engineers — see Gnomish engineering and Goblin engineering.

Tips: what to keep in your bags

One slot, one joke. Classic bags are tight, so carry two or three favourite items and keep the rest in the bank.
Savory Deviate Delight is the best start. It stacks to 20, is cheap and works at any level.
Watch the binding. Soulbound items cannot be passed to an alt, while the Orb of Deception and Savory Deviate Delight can be sold or mailed.
Wait for holidays. Wands, snowballs and holiday fireworks only appear during events — stock up in time.
Pets take space too. Companion pets in 1.12.1 are bag items as well, see companion pets.

Druids and shamans lose the Savory Deviate Delight effect when they shift form, so change shape first and eat afterwards.

FAQ

Does WoW Classic 1.12.1 have a toy collection?

No. The Toy Box was added in Warlords of Draenor, patch 6.0. In 1.12.1 every fun item sits in your bags or bank and takes a slot, so a collection has to live in the bank.

Which fun item is easiest for a new player?

Savory Deviate Delight. Deviate Fish is fished in the Barrens oases, Mild Spices are sold by cooking supply vendors, and the recipe needs only 85 Cooking. The dish turns you into a pirate or a ninja for an hour.

Can fun items be bought on the Auction House?

Some can: Orb of Deception is bind on equip, while Savory Deviate Delight, fireworks and the Discombobulator Ray do not bind at all. Noggenfogger Elixir and Hallowed Wands bind when picked up, so you have to earn them.

Do tabards and shirts give stats?

The Guild Tabard and the Alterac Valley battle tabards give no stats, and tailored shirts in 1.12.1 are for looks as well. They use their own equipment slots, so wearing them costs you no armor.
