Essence of Fire: where to farm, transmutes and recipes

◆Where to farm Essence of Fire

The essence drops only from fire and lava creatures of level 50 and above. The full picture for every element is collected in the elemental reagents reference, and the creatures themselves are covered in the fire elementals article.

Open world: Un'Goro and the elemental invasions

The main solo farming spot is the slopes of Fire Plume Ridge in Un'Goro Crater. Scorching Elementals and Living Blazes respawn in about 5 minutes, and besides the essence they drop Heart of Fire (about 7%). The elite Baron Charr also appears there as part of the elemental invasions; on our server he respawns roughly every day and a half, but his essence chance is 75%.

In the Searing Gorge the elementals do not drop the essence, but Blazing, Inferno and Magma Elementals of levels 45-49 drop Heart of Fire at 5-7%. It is a good farm for mid-level leatherworkers and alchemists.

Dungeons and raids

In Blackrock Depths the Fireguards stand in groups (Destroyers have 45 spawn points), so a single run yields several essences. The most reliable source, however, is Molten Core: every clear yields several essences from bosses and trash (Flamewakers, Firewalkers and Flameguards drop at 5-11%). In Silithus the summoned members of the Abyssal Council also drop it: Prince Skaldrenox, the Duke of Cynders and the Crimson Templar.

◆Transmutes and Heart of Fire

Patch 1.12.1 has no "Heart of Fire to Essence of Fire" recipe; this is a common mistake copied from guides for later expansions. Only alchemy transmutes are tied to fire:

• Transmute: Air to Fire - recipe from Argent Dawn quartermasters at Honored; the only way to create the fire essence.
• Transmute: Fire to Earth - recipe sold by Plugger Spazzring in Blackrock Depths; turns fire into Essence of Earth.
• Transmute: Elemental Fire - one Heart of Fire becomes three Elemental Fire; recipe from Lokhtos Darkbargainer at Friendly with the Thorium Brotherhood, skill 300, only a 10 minute cooldown.

Elemental transmutes require Alchemy 275 and a Philosopher's Stone, and their daily cooldown is shared with the metal transmutes. So Air to Fire only pays off when Essence of Air is clearly cheaper than fire on the Auction House.

◆What Essence of Fire is used for

Four more essences go into Enchant Gloves - Fire Power and the Cenarion Circle cloak fire resistance enchant, and the Robe of the Archmage needs 10 essences of each of the four elements. Many of these items are the backbone of fire resistance gear for Molten Core.
