Eredar are a race of mighty sorcerers from the world of Argus who became the lords of the Burning Legion. Once a wise and gifted people, they were seduced by Sargeras with the promise of boundless power and embraced fel. Their corrupted branch is called the man'ari eredar, and from it came the Legion's greatest commanders — Kil'jaeden and Archimonde.
Not all eredar fell: those who rejected Sargeras and fled Argus became the draenei — the "exiled ones." Thus one people split into bitter enemies.
Who are the eredar
Eredar are tall horned beings with hooves, chin tentacles and a natural affinity for magic. Before their fall they ruled a thriving civilization on the planet Argus, famed for its sorcerers and artifacts.
When Sargeras came to the three eredar leaders, two — Kil'jaeden and Archimonde — accepted his gift and led their people into the Legion. Embracing fel, the man'ari gained monstrous power but lost their souls.
Lords and strategists of the Legion
The man'ari eredar are the brain of the Burning Legion. If the nathrezim weave intrigues and the pit lords smash the foe, the eredar plan the invasion of entire worlds.
Kil'jaeden the Deceiver seduces races into the Legion's service — it was he who corrupted the orcs and created the Scourge. Archimonde the Defiler is the supreme warlord who leads the armies into battle. Together they are Sargeras's right and left hands.
A divided people: eredar and draenei
The eredar's greatest tragedy is their schism. The third leader, the sage Velen, did not believe Sargeras's promises. Warned by a prophecy, he led part of his people off Argus, fleeing the Legion.
These refugees named themselves draenei — the "exiled ones." For millennia the Legion hunted them across worlds. So the eredar became both the worst villains and some of the most steadfast fighters against fel — two branches of one people.
