Nathrezim, known as dreadlords, are a caste of winged demons of the Burning Legion, masters of intrigue, espionage and manipulation. They do not crush worlds with brute force but rot them from within: sowing discord, betraying allies and playing on mortal weakness. It was the nathrezim who, at Kil'jaeden's order, oversaw the Scourge in WoW Classic.
A dreadlord is deadlier than any warrior: his weapons are lies, fear and the art of turning enemies against one another. Where a nathrezim appears, kingdoms fall without a single siege.
Who are the nathrezim
Nathrezim are tall winged demons with leathery bat wings, pale skin and burning eyes. They are often called dreadlords (dreadlords) for the terror they instill. Unlike the straightforward pit lords, the nathrezim fight with their minds.
They wield dark magic: inflicting sleep, draining life force, raising undead and instilling fear. But their chief weapon is intellect and the ability to manipulate. A dreadlord may play the role of a loyal advisor for years before he strikes.
Overseers of the Scourge
When Kil'jaeden created the Scourge and the Lich King, it was the nathrezim he appointed as secret overseers. The dreadlords Tichondrius, Anetheron and Balnazzar ensured the Lich King served the Legion.
Yet the plan turned against its masters: when the Lich King gained will, the nathrezim tried to seize the Scourge — and were defeated. This feud of demons and undead became a key turning point in Azeroth's history.
Nathrezim in WoW Classic
In the Vanilla era the player does not meet the nathrezim at once, but their mark is everywhere. The most famous is the dreadlord Balnazzar, the final boss of the Scarlet wing of Stratholme. Taking the guise of the Grand Crusader of the Scarlet Crusade, he secretly ruled the human zealots, bending their crusade to the Legion's benefit.
