Before the War of the Ancients, Omen was a mighty and glorious Wild God who fought the Burning Legion. But grievous wounds and demonic corruption clouded his mind. Once a defender of Azeroth, he became a raging, maddened creature that had lost itself.
Slumber beneath the lake
The maddened Ancient was subdued and sunk into sleep at the bottom of Lake Elune'ara in Moonglade — the sacred heart of druidism. There, beneath the quiet water, Omen sleeps, until the fireworks of the festival disturb his rest and rouse his ancient fury.
Awakening at the Lunar Festival
During the Lunar Festival the din of celebration lures Omen from the depths. He rises from the lake, and the Elders summon heroes to give him battle. By laying the Ancient to rest, players honor the fallen and the goddess Elune — so madness gives way to peace once more, until the next year.
The meaning of the rite
The battle with Omen is not merely a fight but a rite of remembrance. Night elves and druids see in the Ancient's laying-to-rest a tribute to those who fell in the War of the Ancients. Defeated, Omen finds peace again, and the heroes receive the festival's blessing.
